But he's right - nowhere on the Wiki spreadsheet is "Updated SYNC to Software Version: 22192_PRODUCT Revision: 498"

Was this left out on purpose?

EDIT: Nevermind, think you answered below - we were typing at the exact same time!

It is an awesome guide now that you improved it. I just don't see where software versions 22192 and 22228 come in.
All I updated were the models. It would say "F150" for every update that pertained to a truck, when some of them were only for the Lightning. There were other updates that only said Mach E, but they pertained to the F150, as well, so I corrected that. Any updates that list a Sync revision in it seems to have been copied and pasted by whoever first set up the page. I didn't add Sync versions to the wiki, as I am not sure which updates did change the sync version and if it changed it, I don't know what it changed it to. I had to take the FDRS route to get my truck up to date, so I did not get the updates naturally to be able to see the changes as they happened. Not to mention, with all the different sync versions that are out there, it would be impossible to get that accurate. We do know that 3.5.3. gives you sync 22228 and we are hoping that going forward, everything will be unified and easier to keep track of.

I think it is safe to add to the wiki that 3.5.3 includes Sync 22228, but only for F150's. We'd have to look at the people on the Mach E forums to see if their Sync is also 22228 after this OTA to see if it is unified across both vehicles and not just the F150.

Also, not a single OTA that has been released up to this point requires WiFi. ... I had all my OTA's come in via the trucks' own data plan.
Is the "truck data plan" something the truck has from the factory for the OTA's alone, or do you mean the optional buy-up plans to make the truck a hotspot?? I thought all updates needed to be in WiFi zones!
I don't have the latest update number in front of me but I'm now able to use my bed & hitch cameras while driving (FINALLY!!). Mine was built Feb-Mar 2021. It took forever before I started seeing any updates. I thought I was going to have to attempt doing them myself. I bought the cable/connector to use FDRS but got cold feet. Shortly thereafter, the OTA's started happening.

Can my VIN: 1FTFW1ED2MFB09069 be checked also? I'd like to try the Unreal sync theme and different splash screens if they'll work in my XLT. I've used Forscan to change tail/turn/brake light LED's, Bambi mode, universal windows via key fob, disable double honk, and double click fob for panic.

Oh, and If anyone wants to buy the FDRS dongle cheap...(er)? :sneaky:

You have one of the cleanest OTA histories I have seen to date. All your updates came in between July 20th and without a single hiccup. You are only missing 3.5.3 to be fully up to date. 3.5.3 is almost 6 gigs, but I have never checked anyone's VIN that has gotten it to see if WiFi is required for that one, and I asked two people who got it if they were on WiFi or not, but they never responded. If you see the screenshot below of your OTA history, notice there is a column that says "WiFi Required" and every single update says no. I'd be nice if someone who got 3.5.3 can post or send me their VIN so I can check the details of that update.

Wow! Thanks for that info. Like I said, It took almost 1.5 years to get an update! I park about 25' from my garage (as you can see in my ID picture) and my router is on the opposite side of my house. But the truck still gets a decent signal there. My phone is 50/50. Sometimes it struggles to decide whether to pick cell or WiFi.
Is the full screen Car Play part of that 6 gig update? I've been shaking my head ever since getting the truck that I can't use the 12" screen other than with the Ford map. My STX with Sync 3 was basically the same size! At least the resolution is much better.
And what about the cell data? Does the truck have it's own data plan? I didn't pay for any subscriptions yet. Figured I'd wait till my 3 years of Sync 4 run its course before deciding. I actually like the clean look of the Ford Navigation and it's not been bad but I still tend to rely on Google maps more often.

Thanks again for the valuable info.

Yes, 3.5.3 gives you full screen AA & CarPlay. Yes, it has it's own data plan for updates and the navigation and statistics sharing with Ford. The Wi-Fi hotspot is something else.

Someone else reported getting 3.5.3 who had already posted their VIN in the past. I checked his OTA dashboard and the 3.5.3 update also says Wi-Fi is NOT required.

I thought you need the latest (3.5.3) to enable unreal engine?
I've enabled the flag via forscan and it made the same changes others are showing in 5.3 with mine being 5.2

Yes, it has it's own data plan for updates and the navigation and statistics sharing with Ford. The Wi-Fi hotspot is something else.
Same modem. This is what GM has done for ~15 years now. It's quite common across all industries including aircraft. The telemetry units (TCU) are on and passing data if YOU realize it or not, and regardless if you're actually able to use the data or subscribed to a service. The only way to stop this is to unplug the cellular antenna from the TCU and disable any other exterior network connectivity (2).

There's benefits on multiple fronts for this 'free' / hidden data sharing agreement. The carrier, ATT in this instance gets to claim to investors that they've got every ford vehicle with a TCU as a 'network user'. The amount of data that flows over the network is peanuts and can even be scheduled in busier areas. LTE has a lot of features built in and it can for instance send a device what amounts to a 'priority code' that tells the TCU current network conditions -- and basically store your data for later transmit.

(2) The wifi in the truck can be programmed with any number of public facing SSIDs that we're not aware of and quietly connect to them. Most ISPs like comcast turn their customers modems into public gateways for customers with L/P to connect to. They also have public gateways through out cities. If the TCU has its antenna unplugged, the vehicles could still very well be using known public wifi from cable companies, major chains, etc... Mcdonalds for instance has their public wifi provided as a service by none other than ATT. Sitting in the drive through? Stopped at a light in front of one and the truck COULD be passing any number of variables to HQ. Ford really wants your telemetry data (all companies do). It's a double edged sword. Sure it can tell them the health of virtually every vehicle they've sold -- depending on just how deep of info they scrape from the vehicle, it could even find issues before they occur - ie: a component's power draw begins to steadily climb or becomes erratic and based on past data they know that whatever behavior its power draw is exhibiting that a failure is likely within x days or y miles.

This is why they scrape forums and other social media as well wanting your vin. There's not a person behind that, it's all automated. They can be so thorough in their social media collection that language model AI could read what mods you've done / talked about / shared, and tie that to the vehicle, its performance, failures, etc... The end result will be higher quality vehicles in the long run until the bean counters fugg something up, but they also know more about you and your habits than you do.

as far as ford or verizon or att collecting data, its all out there for last 15 years anyway.
i can honestly say this truck has been my favorite in regards to safety features, comfort and overall goodness.
my wifes 2012 edge has been flawless as well, only normal maintenance.
my 21 f250 was OMG ahead of my last super duty

i had a special pre 1980 vehicle on stand by for when i snap and go on a robbery / spree

I can check for you tomorrow from the office, but you have a 2022, so your truck already shipped with all the goodies that we are waiting for as job 1 owners. Your question is more in line with FORscan mods which I am no expert in.

Finally enabled the “Climate Control at Bottom of Screen” and the “Unreal Sync Theme”! Totally loving the way it looks compared to all blue! Now I gotta figure out how @powerboatr got to the screen that shows the climate bottom bar. ?
