Hello all,

I have 2021 FX4 3.5.
Has anyone done the recommended 60k mike service plan?

My dealer quoted me $1226.00 to get it done. What are yalls thoughts on getting this service done?

Automatic trans fluid flush
radiator coolant system flush
rear diff fluid flush
power steering fluid flush
fuel injector/decarb flush
fuel filter
cabin filter
etc...
Thanks.

Personally I would only do transmission fluid and diff fluid every 60K miles.

I can’t tell you the last time i changed my coolant (unless I swapped a new Rad) or power steering (unless I needed to pull the PS pump to get at something else)

right or wrong, my cars run like brand new for as long as I keep them following the above (some 50+ years old on original engine, trans & diff)

This sounds 'dealer recommended' not so much manufacturer recommend. Check your manual.

Look at what is needed for the next service as well. My wife's Acura called for coolant change/flush at one service, next interval called for timing belt, water pump, etc. that also would have had a coolant flush. Fortunately we looked ahead of time, and the dealer mentioned it too when we said not to do it, but I'm sure there are dealers out there that would charge people twice.

That is not what the manual recommends... You might ask your dealer to review the Owners Manual, the recommended stuff around 60K is nowhere near that extensive... Your dealer made this up...

I fault NO ONE for servicing more frequently than the MINIMUM recommendations of the manufacturer.

Although I don't think the term "flush" applies to the 10r80 transmission unless the dealership has the sophisticated heating machine that can ensure the internal thermostat is open. The vacuum machine would have to heat the transmission fluid to accomplish that. They do exist, but not every shop has one.

Rear/front differential and transfer case, I feel the same. Fluid change at 60,000 is absolutely a valid service for someone that wants to ensure things are well. I'd ask to please provide pictures of the condition of those fluids. Afterall, it's the only way to know everything is still in great shape and nothing out of the ordinary is going on.

Brakes? Maybe. You can actually see that fluid with the naked eye. How does it look? Nice and transparent?

Engine Coolant? You put a lot of miles on the truck, but in a very short period of time. Modern coolant is designed to last many years, AND you can see it too. Does it look degraded? Doubtful.

And finally, and only my opinion, I wouldn't use the dealership for this service because of the veil most have between the customer and the vehicle/technician. How do I even know they performed everything they stated? Regretfully I just don't trust them right now.
An independent will often let you see more. And are more transparent.

I put miles on slower than you do. Mostly because I spread them across multiple vehicles. But I take heat from some folks because I will have similar services done at 30,000
I don't even try to defend it. Makes me feel better, but mostly it let's me SEE if things are wearing well. If the fluid(s) coming out still look good and healthy, I'm thrilled! I want them to be.

Um…doesn't this particular vehicle have EPAS (Ford‘s electric power steering system) and thus has a sealed, non-serviceable power steering unit and thus no power steering fluid interval? Last I checked while some EPAS units do have fluid inside, it’s not serviceable nor does it require service, has that changed?

Textbook dealer money maker lol.

Services that Ford believes are necessary for your truck at 60k miles include:
Cabin Air Filter
Engine Air Filter
Replace spark plugs (only vehicles with pickup bed power outlet)

Don't forget the blinker fluid flush and fill. Ive seen plenty of people opt out and their blinkers stop working on the road.

Huh… I was under the impression that it has electric PS.
Does anyone know if trans fluid drain and fill requires any special tools? I always DIY my own maintenance and would like to keep it this way if possible.

Powerboost's have electric steering since the engine might not be running while driving on the battery. Do other versions also use electric power steering? As to a drain & fill of a hydraulic power steering system... unless there's some magic about it... a standard set of box/open end wrenches would suffice. You have to be kidding me about this dealer, I'd run away from their repair floor in a heartbeat and as fast as I could.
