Mess Up and Warning... lost key fob and wedding ring

8 day old F-150 XLT PowerBoost.

Changing my golf shoes after a round of golf and laid my keys on the tonneau cover.

Stopped at a convenience store close to my house 45 km later. Immediate warning, no key detected as soon as I turned the truck off. Had to get my daughter to bring the spare key.

Back to the golf course, scoured the parking lot and both sides of the highway and ditch for 2 km on each side. No keys found. Married 24 years in a couple weeks. Wedding ring on key fob.

So the warning is, this truck will start and drive without the key inside the truck. I would have thought the front of a tonneau cover outside the crew cab would be far enough away, but evidently not.

I'm gutted. I have never lost a thing in my life, this was not a good way to start.

I'm afraid to call the dealer to see what this is going to cost me.

Are there any alternative ways to get a replacement key fob for cheaper?

I always keep a "dog tag" type thing with my phone number on my keys. I hope that if someone found them they would call me to let me know. Now they even have electronic tags for luggage "tiles like a dog tag" that can be used with an app to track your stuff.

I have heard the figure of about $350 for the fob because it needs some "special" programing, but I have no actual knowledge if this is correct. Maybe go back and give it another look over. Good luck.

Here is where the powerboost would shine. You can sleep in the truck and set an alarm clock. Brew a cup of coffee in the morning and even cook your breakfast without ever even going home.

I have access to one and may try but it is neigh on impossible. I have no idea where they may have fallen out. The brush in the ditches is VERY thick with the ditches very steep and difficult to negotiate. Leaving the golf course the speed limit is 60 kph immediately and I have crawled the ditches in the mostly likely places it would have fallen off based on falling off the outside of the corners and no sign of them for several hundred yards. I walked a mile up the shoulders slowly on both sides of the road due to corners in both directions, no luck.

I can't believe I did this to myself. I have two teenage drivers in the house and I'm constantly harping on them to be mindful of keyfobs and to return them to the key hooks instead of laying them in random places or leaving them in their bags. They are going to roast me for this.

My father has a metal detector and I'll have a go with it tomorrow but I'm very skeptical it'll work. My only hope is they fell off right away in the parking lot and someone picked them up but forgot to turn them into the proshop.

I still have my wedding ring after 35 years, but its been bashed racing off road motorcycles where it cut off a calluses, its been made round again, resized, 12V shocked, had to get it cutoff after my wrist broke (more motorcycles), soldered back together, resized and buffed 100's of times and it still don't fit right.

I am happy to report that the keys were found and connections have been made via a FB post.

I don't wear the ring as it makes for calluses as I play so much golf. I wear a Teflon one instead but like to keep the real one on my keys. 24 years I've been doing this.

Im still shocked your ring comes off.
Married 30 years. Ring has never been off. I couldnt take it off if I tried. Apparently she got it sized "just right".

i have lost 4 or 5 over the past 39 years, one was her fault
the others are in the ocean or on the beach
now i dont wear mine at all unless i go to town so the ladies know i am taken.
i never used the gold excuse, have to add that one to my list of reasons
