With exception of my jerky shifting transmission (which someday Ford dealers will have availability to fix) I think its an amazing platform. I traded in a 2018 F150 3.5 EB after driving PB that happened to be exactly what I wanted.and if so, why or why not?
This^. My transmission is the same and not a result of the powerboost platform. I've had Chevy's that were the same way (non hybrid) so it must be common... and why I prefer manual transmissions. When the truck is warmed up I get decent electric use under 45mph and it's surprisingly smooth. I know this post is old, but there have been extensive threads on here on how to fix the bonded neutral issue.Yes. However, I would not get the 7.2kW generator... I got that specific option in order to power my house. I cannot do that without expensive mods to the house wiring. The reason? Ford has it hard wired as a bonded neutral generator which won't power the house without said wiring mods. All I can use the generator for is things like a tailgater at a football game. In other words that option is just not worth it...
These mods all require changes to the house wiring, and these are not inexpensive. Were the 7.2 kW generator one with a floating neutral, no mods to the house would be required, period the end. Plug your truck in and run it. Ford knows how to make the change to their design, they just don't want to, they want you to make your house fit their design. In case you're curious, the non-hybrid 2 kW generator is a floating neutral. Like I said, Ford knows how to alter their design. A useful perspective. I appreciate that. I ended up with the 2.4KW generator because I could get that one and I couldn't get the 7.2KW in the required time frame.Yes. When I eventually get the Powerboost that I ordered, I plan to run parallel wiring to the handful of appliances that I'd want to power with the truck in case of power failure (fridge, freezer, furnace blower, sump pump, etc). I'd install new outlets adjacent to the current outlets that are only powered by the truck, essentially making permanent "extension cords" from those appliances to the truck; there would be no connection with the house wiring. It would require manually moving plugs from one outlet to another when the power fails, but it would mean that I wouldn't have to touch any of the current circuits. Much simpler solution for my needs, since the power seldom fails in my neighborhood, and it's not worth spending big money on transfer switches (to me).These mods all require changes to the house wiring, and these are not inexpensive. As to cost... Not so. All that woud be required is an inlet Plug & breaker (30 Amp/240Vac) and a manual interlock with the outside line breaker. Less than $50 before inflation kicked in these days. A transfer switch & panel goes for something like $350 plus other stuff...Yup! And I would get the 7.2kw generator as well! The wiring and material costs to allow the 7.2kw Powerboost to power your house are only slightly higher than what it would cost to install a transfer switch for a conventional generator! Without the cost of the generator!
