Why not just announce a recall and get it over with?
A recall would bring more (media) attention to a problem they can't readily solve.

I've not noticed much in terms of a leak ending up in the floor tray under the truck, but I am keeping an eye on the reservoir. It appears to be going down (slowly - thankfully), so I think It's losing more traveling now than sitting.

Hi there, I have the same issue My powerboost leaked 1.5 kms from home on February 24, 2022 towed to dealer with 2962 kms (1840.5 miles), and as of today March 23 2022 no eta on new exhaust heat exchanger to fix my vehicle part# ML3Z-5A212-V. my truck was built on January 6, 2022. FORD NEEDS TO GET THERE ACT TOGETHER. Iconic vehicle and they are having these kinds of problems.

I think a little media attention would help, not hurt. Might get Ford jumpin' a little faster. The problem seems to be distribution, not mechanical at this point.

Sorry - my post was related to answering why Ford doesn't do a recall. It doesn't benefit them at all.

The problem seems to also be in manufacturing the part as well as distribution.

Have you opened up a case with Ford Motor directly yet? If not, you should. Attack this problem from both ends and don't just rely on your dealer to keep up.

Yeah, I do recall someone, maybe it was my case worker, mentioning a labor shortage as well. I'd be very interested to know where this new part is manufactured. Well, maybe I don't!

Going to go check my truck tomorrow at the dealer. At least I still have visitation rights.

Oh yeah, Ford of Canada is involved, they are contacting me every 2 days with updates (usually just to say no eta), they are paying for my f150 rental, and have already issued a courtesy credit.

do you mind sharing what type of courtesy credit?

A case worker supervisor yesterday offered to buy the truck back from me as well.

today is week 6 with no truck. i told her i couldnt make the decision without more specific information. i made her go and get me an actual answer on where i am on the list to get a new part, and it they're even available.

basically, waiting another 7-10 days is different then announcing a recall and not having a truck until the summer, or later.

i was not offered any other compensation other than my current rental car.

i also sent a certified letter to Ford MoCo with a notice of defect/lemon law which i think prompted them to call me yesterday, since that appeared to be a customer care specialist.

anyways, thats my update for now...

UPDATE: After a long battle with the dealership I managed to convince them to release my truck, while we are waiting for the part. Of course, they had me sign the waiver that further damage might occur, if I keep driving the truck in its current state. I am personally not worried about that. They also gave me 2 gallons of coolant, to top it off.

My next steps:

Looking at the ICE cooling loop diagram, this heat exchanger really does nothing more than controls the cabin heat:

Our "infamous" heat exchanger is located on item 20. As you can see it is connected directly to the cabin heater core (item 21) then down to the cabin heater pump (item 13). I am intending to provide a temporary fix, by bypassing the heat exchanger completely by coupling the inlet and outlet hoses together. Just need to find a fitting part.

Once my part becomes available, I will restore the hose connection and return my truck to dealer.

I will update you on how this goes

For anyone interested, here's a comparison of the ICE cooling loop for a (non-hybrid) EcoBoost:

Thats great, I was offered a cash gift certificate on week 2, then they said at week 6 they would start making my payments, then came to me with the same offer you have received about trading it in if it went passed six weeks, but I told them they had to replace with exact same in kind truck.
I am glad that I now don't have to go through that. I am very happy to tell all you guys on this forum, that after all my complaining, I got my truck back yesterday at 5pm. My dealer has been very good to deal with, although I didn't buy the truck there, I have bought one other there, I will continue to support and refer people there. Since I have been in the same situation as many of you, I will sincerely say I hope you all get your trucks back or get a fair deal in the end.

It would be nice if there was a way to bypass this entirely and flash out the DTC's/logic needed to make everything work just like a non-PB. Especially for those of us in non-frigid climates.
