...and how is this not a recall yet? that still baffles me.

i spent 4 days and 1,900 miles driving back from Granger to SoFla and i havent seent my truck in 5 weeks since i got back home the second week of February.

at this point I'd actually rather them order me a new one honestly.

i cant imagine the shape and condition my truck is in sitting on a dealers lot in the Florida sun for 5 weeks without a wash, let alone even starting it.
I did go ahead and place an order and I guess we will see which one comes in first.

I have checked Ford inventory within 100 miles of my location, no PowerBoost with Platinum trim available. If we submit an order for a new truck, how long is it going to take to get one delivered with all the workforce and chip shortage they are facing ? I would be rather willing to wait another week or two, hoping the part would become available, rather than shooting myself in the foot, with a buy back and ordering and waiting for a new truck for (who know how many) months... Honestly, I am very undecided at this point...

Can you elaborate in more details, what do you mean by placing a new order ? Have you ordered a new truck ? Is this a part of your "buy-back" deal or you just placed an order for a brand new truck ? Any out of pocket expense for you at this point ?

My dealer only requires a small deposit and if I don't want the truck they will refund it back to me. Since they dont have trucks on the lot they would be able to sell it no problem so I figured I might as well place the order.

Did you receive at least an approximate ETA for the new truck ? What will you do if the new truck arrives prior fixing the old one ? Will you just sell the old one once it is fixed ?

They said 2-5months to receive the new one. When it comes in they will trade me out of my current truck or I can decide to just keep my current truck if it's fixed. The Powerboost trucks are so hard to find I guess it's possible I could sell it for more than I paid but that is probably wishful thinking. I am not obligated to purchase the new ordered truck.

is this from the dealer or a Ford Rep?

So my Ford rep calls me this morning to tell me the “usual”, then she shocks me with a “buy-back” offer. I don’t know what to think. Does this mean they really dont have those parts and my truck will not be fixed in a foreseeable future ? So they rather buy it back ? I did not even mention or threatened them with Lemon law. What do y’all think ?
Do you have an email chain going on with your agent or is it all phone calls? Which dept are they in?

I have no idea why Ford would want to do a buy back when a $500-$800 part apparently fixes the problem and there are replacement parts filtering out now.

@iceman77 ,
If you want a KingRanch or Platinum trim you must know that they have the looooongest delay.

I'm in a 2021 Platinum Powerboost that I snatched up last May when the dealership actually had 2 of them in inventory. They have not received another Platinum or KingRanch since.
A customer CAN order one of course, and that is the only way a dealership can currently get an allocation for one.
Once I realized how much I love this truck I decided I would KEEP the Powerboost if I could just get the 6.5' bed. And since I was ordering it I did add the CCD suspension and left the panoramic roof off of it to gain the 60lbs in Payload capacity.

Anyways, it took 3 months from order date to get a build date. If they actually do build it when it is scheduled, I will see the truck in person at about 6 months from order date.

As you know, my Platinum has been perfect, and is 100% up to date on OTA. Lol
Somebody is going to end up with a perfect Job1 2021 Platinum Powerboost with less than 6000 miles, and $3000 worth of paint protection. (very high end ceramic job and PPF front facia)

I sure hope my 2022 KingRanch is as trouble free as this Platinum has been. :)

Good luck with whatever you choose to do. I'm encouraged FOR you that they brought up the idea of a buyback. But dang if it's a tough time to even FIND the truck you already have.

Beautiful truck you have there Bruce! Really! (y)

I had a long discussion with my wife and we are inclining toward declining the buy-back offer. After all, the PowerBoost I have rides smoothly, the transition from electric to gas (and vice versa) is so smooth, that you wont even notice it, gears are shifting good, mileage is better than I expected and having a 7.2k generator in Texas is an extra perk to have! I just need to be patient and wait until the part arrives. Currently I am fighting the dealership to "release" my truck from their lot, but they are very reluctant to do so. They are threatening to cancel the service ticket, and making me pay for the accrued rental days (4 weeks as of today) for the rental car they provided. Also they threatened me that my part order will loose its "emergency status" should I pick up the truck from them prior the repair being done. I spoke with my Ford agent in the morning and she said, that she (or FoMoCo) has no issues to have the truck back and my existing order and escalation would stay in place. If I could at least have my truck back, and drive it, running errands, locally in town, that would an acceptable solution at this point. Yes, the heat exchanger leaks, but its not that bad, I would say, the stain it leaves on my garage floor annoys me more than the leak on the truck itself.

Thanks. I swear if it was White I probably would just keep it and not take the trade hit.
It's gorgeous paint. But it's only clean for about 5 minutes at a time.

I haven't even pulled the factory tags off it. :) (I need some Platinum wheels-takeoffs before the trade. Someone begged me for the Platinum wheels and I let them go before finding the wheels I want. Those on the truck are 2014 Limited 22 wheels powder coated to match KingRanch accent color. )

Well, I took my truck in on February 4th because of the check engine light. Diagnosed as P2C22 code. parts are back-ordered.

As of yesterday, parts are STILL back-ordered and no ETA.

I have noticed puddling under my 21 power boost, but, figured it was condensation, last I checked my coolant reservoir level was good. Reading over this thread makes me think I should check it again. My dealer has said my truck is safe to drive, so I have been...

Just got an update from my service advisor. The Ford system is showing requests for over 500 units of the same part. He said the next shipment from Ford is going out on the 28th and it’s for only 35 units. He said there is no way to tell who those units are going out to, the system just says they’re going out. He thinks my part was within the first 100 but doesn’t have a way to confirm that. It’s been two weeks so far, looking like 2 to 3 more at least.

Wow, beautiful steed ya got there. Is that the 6.5' bed or are you saying that the new KR will be 6.5?

(I ordered a 6.5 XLT and don't see many in the wild)

Well, if it’s any gauge at all, my Ford case worker told me last Friday that they could confirm what my dealer said about 54 going out last week and my name was on one of them. Today is day 28 since I opened a case with Ford and day 30 since I left my truck at my dealer. This would have been resolved sooner had Ford realized earlier that the parts they originally sent out were the original defective exchangers. That’s why a new supplier was apparently found with a slightly different part number attached. So, if they are sending another 35 out next week, that’s a good thing. Whether you’re on that allotment really depends on how early you contacted Ford about the problem and how persistent your Ford agent is in reserving one for you. The bad thing is more powerboost owners are realizing they have a heat exchanger coolant leak problem and now you’re told the part demand is over 500! The last I heard it was about 159 or so. Why not just announce a recall and get it over with? So far, this seems all under the radar. Good luck to all of us. ?
