2022 F-150 Lariat Sport Powerboost.
I have read that Ford for some reason has curtailed the amount of ambient lighting in the 2022's compared to the 2021's. They have eliminated the lighting in the door pockets, cup holders, and phone storage area. Is there any possible way to add this back myself? I really like those features.

There is a thread elsewhere where someone has been adding them back in and he is providing the Ford P/N's for the deleted items. Don't have the link off-hand but you could probably do a web search and come up with it. Be aware the disassembly and reassembly is a lot of work.

I suspect that it has to do with the chip shortage. I am seeing this on other cars that I was looking at where manufacturers have decontented vehicles as compared to prior model years.

This is one reason (not specifically removing the ambient light, but other components) that got me to buy the truck off the lot instead of ordering one. Same thing with my wife and her new Explorer we got on Saturday. I read that they wil be removing the rear A/C controls in explorers (promising to install them at a later date), so we found a good price on one that had at least what wanted and got them. We paid a bit more for features did didn't need, but we are happy knowing we got what we wanted (except I can't stand that the Explorers still use Sync3..that' ones gonna bite us in the butt later)

It's also a nice production cost reduction over several hundred thousand vehicles

Perhaps - but not for those features that the OEM has committed to paying the dealers to install at a later date. In those cases, I suspect the ultimate cost the the OEM is actually more given that they have to pay warranty labor rates for the upgrades.

Ah, but the original post was asking about the ambient lighting that was deleted for 2022, not the recent announcement that Ford would begin shipping trucks missing ordered feature modules that the dealer will later install. I'm sure Ford saved/earned several million dollars, easily, this year by deleting the ambient lighting in cupholders, doors, cell phone charge compartment and getting rid of glove box lighting and making the bed lighting a chargeable option rather than a freebie.

Ford is also removing features mid year with no plan to "add in later". I.e. they removed Glare Free headlights in Canada for Job 2 trucks.

I was worried about waiting or ordering because I had no idea what other things Ford would decide to remove. I love the truck I got though and have zero regrets.

I will be adding in the ambient lights that are missing using '21 parts. I wish they didn't remove the multiple color options. My daughter loved that.

Are we losing the bed lighting on the Lariats? (And to clarify, I am referring to the Lightings and not the ICE vehicles)

Yes. For 22 you still get zone lighting, but bed lights only come with bed utility package.

Don't know about the Lightning, you'd have to look at the ordering guide to see what is included for various trim levels. The original post was referencing the ICE F-150 loss of features.

Just curious what resources you will be using to add those 2021 parts (instructions/where to buy). There was a linked post earlier in this thread that may be helpful. I would like to do the same thing as you. Buy those ambient light parts and install them myself. I love the look of the interior at night with that lighting. VERY disappointed mine will not have that.

Apologies for reviving this thread, but does anyone know what ambient lighting the 2022 Raptor has? Thanks.
