How exactly is zone lighting supposed to work? I can turn it on each time I want to use it, but going to features in the menu...and then I have to select which zones I want to turn on, or select all zones. And the lights stay on for a period of time. Is this the only way they are supposed to work...where you have to manually activate them from inside the vehicle each time you want them to operate? Or, can you make some type of setting change where they light up as you approach the vehicle, or when you depart the vehicle?

Or is there somewhere I can find how exactly the zone lighting is supposed to work. I got very little from the manual, other than how to turn it on.

I thought they do light up when you approach your vehicle?

Zone lighting and welcome lighting are two different things.

Welcome lighting: with approach detection turned on, welcome lighting will illuminate the DRLs, mirror puddle lamps, CHMSL and tailgate lamps. This is similar to courtesy lighting, which operates when you remote start or unlock the truck.

Zone lighting can selectively (or all) operate headlamps, dimmed DRLs, mirror puddle lamps, mirror spotlights, CHMSL and tailgate lamps, and reversing lamps. Zone lighting can be operated from fordpass (depending on version) or from the sync screen. Vehicle must be stationary. Timeouts exist for battery protection from discharge when engine not running. Haven't looked to see if timeout function is adjustable or able to be turned off.

Since you mentioned "depending on version"...is there a way to go back to the earlier version (if you know). I suspect there isn't, but sure wish there were a way.

Yes, but... for iPhone, you'd need something like imazing which allows downloading from the App Store into a local library. Unfortunately, you'd have had to already downloaded the older version to then be able to remove the current one and install the old one from the library. It's great for apps that introduce new bugs or remove functionality every time the developer makes an update 🤣. (No affiliation with them, purely a grateful customer). I use it for a database product that keeps bugging on new updates so I can roll back 👍.

I just don't get it. EVERYONE liked the old app over the new one. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how Ford benefits from the new version over the old. I take it as a middle finger from Ford...and for this (and a few other reasons), really wondering if I may now be driving my last Ford. Now looking for a new vehicle, and Lincoln/Ford is, unfortunately, pretty far down the list.
