The owners manual, being vague and stupid as it is, can't help.

Firs of all, I do not have this in my Z.L. Settings:

Ford F-150 School me on Zone Lighting 1640739350042

The only thing I see in Z.L. settings has to do with Autolamp override or no override. What in the world does this mean?

Also from the manual:

You can use zone lighting when your
vehicle is on or off. When it is off, the
lighting turns off after a certain period of
time.
When the vehicle is OFF, is this part of the "welcome lighting"?
If so, how do I set it up? Because I did turn them all on, got out of the truck and locked it, waited forever and they did not turn off. Is the "certain period of time" pre-set and we cannot change it?

When the vehicle is ON - again, is this part of "Welcome Lighting", for example if I remote-started the vehicle and approach it 5 minutes later?
Otherwise if the vehicle is ON and I am in it, what reason do I have to turn any of the Zone Lighting ON? I am not a police officer searching for criminals in dark alleys.

So confusing.

I believe those highlighted are just the dashboard indicators. I haven't verified, but that's what they look like.

As for the second part, it isn't part of welcome lighting, zone lighting is much brighter for the side mirrors (at least on my tow mirrors). The front uses the headlights, and the back is the same for zone and just walking up. As far as I know, welcome lighting only works when the vehicle is off, it's the approach lights.

The reasons to use zone lighting is if you are doing something outside the truck and need extra lighting. For example, camping or using a generator....etc. If the truck is on, they stay on longer. If off, they stay on for a bit. I've seen mine turn off after a few minutes.

Thank you @dhrandy . I guess I got them confused with the welcome lighting, didn't really get their purpose. Makes sense now, if you need light outside the truck. I just wish the manual was clearer, especially in regards to the "certain period of time" (what is that period, is it adjustable, etc).

Any idea what the single setting does, where it says Auto Lamp Override (yay or nay)? Still don't understand this one.

I didn't see that, but it sounds like when you have the headlights on auto, and you turn the headlamp knob it'll override.

Or it could be when you have the auto headlamps on and you manually turn on the high beams, it also overrides the auto lamps.

I've "studied" the Zone Lighting stuff in the manual too and the auto lamp override is confusing, for sure. I don't get it either. Mine works and I use it, but what's weird is if you go in the FordPass app and use Zone Lighting, if I activate only the passenger side zone it turns itself off after 30 seconds every time. Every other zone stays on. Will someone try their passenger side zone lighting through the FordPass app and let me know if yours turns off within a minute too?

Old thread but figured I’d answer your question. Using FordPass app and turning on one of the side mirrors mine did not cut off after a minute. I let it run for about twenty minutes before I manually turned it off in the app. I do think that is a nice feature to be able to control it remotely, but I don’t understand why the physical buttons inside the cabin for the side mirror lights don’t work when the car is powered off or in accessory mode.

Don't forget the buttons by your left knee. Show a light with the mirror.
Those physical buttons work just fine when the truck has ignition on, but mine don’t seem to work without ignition. So if I wanted to illuminate something off to the side without the truck running (maybe for a long time and didn’t want to idle the motor), then I have to use the FordPass app to do that.
