OK I just went out and tried what you suggested. I needed to lift the whole tailgate a good foot before the auto tailgate would engage. And I'll repeat since you missed my point earlier - my hands are now covered in dust, which defeats the point of having a power tailgate.

Not sure why it's so hard to grasp that many many many people spend $70k or even $80k on a fully loaded F150. And want the luxury features to be easy to use, just right, well thought out with multiple ways of using it based on preference and workflow.

By your logic, you can discount a lot of luxury features on this truck (or any car) as unnecessary because there are "multiple options" already. Why do we need auto high beams? Just hit the high beam switch every time, its right there. Why do you need auto rain-sensing wipers that always work? Just hit the wiper switch, its right there. Why do you need a motion sensing liftgate closer? Just reach up and pull the liftgate down in the SUV. Why do you need auto steering wheel heater and seat heater to turn on when you remote start the car? Just go out there and manually turn them on.

etc. etc.

Anyway, if you don't see the value in this, that's perfectly OK.
I understand your desire and I don’t even have my truck yet. I saw it somewhere else and I adopted the phrase “if I have to explain it to you then you’ll never understand” years ago and this is one of those situation.

Hrrmmmm... Can you program another code on the door for the tailgate ?
Type your code in and then press the 56 button within 5 seconds and the tailgate opens

I totally get the remotely releasing tailgate but the power up/down tailgate is probably the most useless feature of any truck. The way they placed the button on the F150 is ridiculous

I use it daily when leaving my facility. This way security don’t have to touch my truck as previously they used to slam my tailgate after checking my truck and it used to piss me off. Not any more with the Power Tailgate, I can power it Down then back up from inside the truck.

Yes, so they put a button on the FOB.

Problem solved.

Oh, and you might want to refrain from telling everyone you never remove fob from truck.

First time i have ever heard pushing a button on a key FOB is a life altering problem.

I spent $80k for my truck and spent less on my wife’s Audi Q7 prestige yet the Audi has better luxury features. Ford just doesn’t know how to do luxury like a luxury manufacturer so we are all stuck with nice but different things, so are better and some are worse.
Love those Audi Pick-up trucks. :)

Everyone has different wants / needs.

I love my power up/down tailgate, the in-cabin button is a tremendous step-saver when hitching / unhitching my 5th wheel RV (it's so close to the truck when hitched that the tailgate won't clear the front of the trailer). That and the power-fold / extend TT mirrors are the two decadent luxuries that prompted me to step-up to the Lariat 500A from the XLT 'high', and I'm so glad I did!

I've quickly learned ('motor memory'?) the location of the 'awkwardly hidden' button on the tailgate, nothing gets dusty except the tip of my finger. Tip: put a tiny patch of blue painter's tape aligned with it but visible to 'train' yourself to the location, it'll soon be second nature.

Or, relocate it if that works best for you, no worries! :)

Without a doubt it makes sense in your case.

If you have to lift your tailgate a foot to engage auto close, then something needs adjustment.

I do it with 2 fingers lifting no more than about 4 inches (i.e. my habit is just flicking it up as I walk away) and it closes.

Mine also takes a pretty big heft to get it to go up on it's own. I would 1 foot is roughly what it is. It feels like I have to bump it up pretty hard and even then I have to stay there as sometimes it doesn't catch and just flops back down. I would love to know how to adjust it.

Same here. I tried it at the weekend for the first time and was a good 1 foot before it engaged and raised itself.

Not easy to film left hand while using right hand, best I could do. You can see the bottom of the black trim on tailgate starts about 7 and I pop it up with 2 fingers to just above 3. This is a KR tailgate with chrome, so has the full extra chrome piece and it has the spray in liner on tailgate. So I would guess pretty much max weight. Notice you do NOT continue lifting up until the power close starts, you just "bounce" it up about 4".

I have another 6 moths until I purchase a new truck, but I plan to add a powered tonneau cover and want to place wireless home link switch in the bed just above the light switc. I wonder if the tailgate will work with the homeland switch as well.
