I had some folks ask me in other forums about this so I figured I could post it here as well.

I've gone ahead and tinted the chrome portion on the XLT tail lights red to make them seamless.

Here's How It's Done:

VHT Nite Shades Red: https://amzn.to/4d527eQ
Clear: https://amzn.to/4d9Vd82

Full Breakdown:
1. Remove tail lights and clean them with degreaser and rubbing alcohol to get rid of any grease, smudges etc.
2. Use 600 or 800 grit (I used 800) sandpaper ONLY on the chrome section. I cut a strip of the paper and wrapped it around my finger.
3. Mask the tail light as you see in the photo.
4. Spray your VHT nite shades red (I did about 4 coats, with 10 minutes in between each coat).
5. After the last coat, wait 30 minutes before moving onto your clear coat.
6. I did several coats of clear (can't remember how many, but 10 minutes apart).
7. After about 4-5 hours I removed the green masking tape. Some folks say you can just remove it while it's all still wet.
8. I let the tail lights dry for about 24 hours
9. After 24 hours I wet sanded only the new sprayed area with 2000 grit sandpaper.
10. After wet sanding, wipe down with rubbing alcohol to clean them again.
11. Use a dual action polisher and an orange cutting pad along with a compound of your choice to polish the wet sanded area back to clear. I used meguiars ultimate compound.

We hope you are loving your F-150! Love to see the details you've added.
