Work Surface Console won't stay open after "Penny trick"

Maybe I lucked out.
The center console stays up, even with slightly bumping it on my 2024 XLT built in March of 2024.

I guess you did get lucky. Mine is a September 2024 build, and mine is as floppy as my 2022 was.

I have the OEM console safe and when its lid is open, it literally holds my console lid open! Yes, I have the workspace. 2021 Platinum.

Oddly, mine stays up on my 2024 but in my older 2021, it did not. The logical side of me asks, "what is the purpose of these springs?" If the purpose is to hold the console lid open, then that part has failed and should be taken back to the dealer for repair/replacement.

When the lid didn't have the mobile office nonsense, the lids stayed up just fine. Now though, Ford has shoved this option down our throats and the spring was never changed to handle the additional weight. I say, do not accept mediocrity from the manufacturer especially with what they charge these days for the trucks. When, not if, mine fails, I will certainly be taking it into the dealer for a stupid spring.

I keep a spare implement of self-defense and accoutrements, as well as a radar detector and other items, in there, so it gets unlocked and relocked with every drive.

Take a look at post number 3 in this thread. I have a Tuffy full locking safe which is similar to the OEM locking safe. This tray fits on top of the safe.

The top of my Ford OE safe is only about 1" (or less) from the top of the console.

That specific tray was made to use the OEM safe, and I modified my Tuffy safe so it would also fit. The tray manufacturer is a sponsor here, or at least they were. There are a couple of threads with links to the item if you feel like searching for it. In the pictures you will see the clearance so take a look and see if that would work for you.

Also that tray snaps in place so not only does it hide the safe but it also takes some "wiggling" to get it out to get into the safe. This could be good or bad if you have to get into that safe regularly.
