The disable pre-collision thread got me thinking. I am going to be coming out of a 15 year old Tundra where the tech consist of cruise control, ABS, and a few buttons for tow/haul, LSD and vehicle stability. I am used to providing driving inputs and the vehicle obliging. I do welcome safety and efficiency as long as it is not too overbearing. So for a newbie what is a good starting point for features/settings that I should turn on or off as I get accustomed to the new found tech? So far I know I want the speed recognition off. Thanks for the opinions.

I find the reverse camera and blind spot detection to be very useful features. Lane keeping notification as well to a lesser extent.

I left the speed recognition on so it would display the speed limit. But, turned off the part where it blinks and flashes warnings and the truck loses it's mind because I'm going 1 mph over....

I honestly don’t notice mine flashing most of the time. It doesn’t flash for very long.

I honestly didn’t find hardly any of it overwhelming. The only thing my previous car has was the blind spot and cross traffic detecting. But I am a techy person and love the tech.

i use all except the speed sign recognition.
i still have the current speed limit thing white flash on the speedo. and the DING if i enter an active school zone.

the evasive steering has saved my bacon, along with the AEB.
i like the lane centering, now that i have it all figured and stopped fighting it.

earlier in the year i had a car at 65mph decide to STOP now and turn left.
i was running with adaptive cruise
truck slowed fast and steered right to go into the emergency lane and went around the now stopped car and then resumed 65
it braked faster than my foot could move
it has even paused or interrupted fwd velocity when a deer ran across,
i think that last one was luck and not so much truck seeing a car,

You are still the driver even with everything enabled. Or, put another way, you can still steer, accelerate, and brake.

Think of it as a student driver that you are giving just a bit of rope to as it earns your trust in all the various daily situations. You can override the student anytime you desire.

Even on Bluecruise, my hand(s) is on the wheel. I don't trust any AI/student that much. :)

Very true! I picked up on the 5th and made a trip into PA and I learned a lot about the ‘assistance’ tech. It made driving less stressful, even with the learning curve. I started with 34 miles on the clock and ended at around 550. I still have a lot to adjust to, but all this tech doesn’t replace your MK1 Mod 0 eyeballs.

I think you should change nothing, as IMO it's a good system won't be noticeable until it's needed. I have all the pre-collision assist and sensors turned on. I get absolute car control. I cut my teeth running canyons and road courses in a car where my 5 piggies were the TC or ABS. I wouldn't call any of the features obtrusive, but by nature they will bring in the edges a bit.

It sounds boring, but RTFM and understand how it all works, and it will seem less like black magic if it does something you're not a fan of.

So far I know I want the speed recognition off.
If you mean you don't want the Cruise Control to adjust speed, then you just want Intelligent Adaptive turned off, and just Adaptive enabled. This will still give you the Speed Sign readout, but no vehicle control.

EDIT: fk that's some gratuitous use of "I" in my first paragraph, but they are all personal declarative statements, I guess.

Use all except speed sign recognition, but sometimes turn that on too. Usually only turn the speed sign recognition feature on when on long drives out in the middle of nowhere on 2 lane highways where the speed doesn't vary much and often goes through small towns - think out in very rural areas.

Cross Traffic Alert is one feature that should never be disabled. Every vehicle that has it should use it in my opinion. It is impossible to see things when backing out of parking lots. This helps fix that. If you never used Cross Traffic Alert before you will be likely be impressed on how useful it is everyday.

Edit: Deleted the word "I" several times. ?

Just use it as is and turn things off as you go and find they annoy you. For me it was just lane keep assist and auto high beams.

Thanks for all the positive comments on features. In regards to the speed recognition, initial preference is for it not to be linked to cruise control. Do like the idea especially when the speed limit drops but not so much when it goes up or the possibility of a miss-read. Will have to try it at a later date and see how it performs.

adaptive cruise with stop and go is separate feature from the speed sign recognition, as speed sign recognition will let the adaptive cruise KNOW its OK to go to whatever the sign says ..plus or minus your set tolerance

and you can set speed limit notifications on the speedo , and NOT have speed sign rec turned on the cause truck to speed up or slow down based in signage

I only used "I" once :ROFLMAO:

the stop and go adaptive cruise IMO is the cats meow, in traffic

If you have Ford Nav, you might get annoyed at warnings for railroad crossings and school zones. I turned that off. I also turned off the Adaptive Cruise Control that reads Speed Limit signs and lowers/speeds up the truck accordingly. Its not perfect system, especially in construction zones.

I disabled 'brake hold' because of the possibility of driving a different vehicle that doesn't have that option and assuming it will 'hold' at a stop light. Bad things could happen.
