Looking for some convenience in my life as I get older and still want to change my own oil. The subject is oil pan drain valves. ValvoMax, EZDrain, and Fumoto seem to be the most popular ranging from $25-$50. I was ready to choose among those mentioned. When I checked ebay, there was another unbranded brass ball valve with the correct thread size for $10. I am all for saving money but sometimes that's not always the best way to go. Has anyone had any experience with the unbranded valve?

I had a Fumoto on my WRX for 16 years until I finally sold it. Never any issues or leaks.

Using a Fumoto on my 21 Limited. No issues. Had them on my wife's Camry and my old 2010 Platinum. Never dripped a drop.

I've had both Fumoto and EZDrain, both worked great but I prefer the EZ Drain, particularly for our trucks as they seal with an o-ring, similar to the OEM drain plug, rather than the Fumoto that uses a felt gasket. I would shy away from saving a few dollars for a cheaper version, IMO.

Its sort of like comparing a 1/2 inch box wrench made by SnapOn and one made by Craftsman. Both function equally well but one costs 3 times as much as the other. Maybe I am trying to talk myself out of getting one in the first place. My current drain plug functions quite well.

What Fumoto would fit the 2.7L?

I’m strongly considering the Valvomax.

The Fumoto design makes me worry that it’ll somehow get opened. I’m sure the likelyhood of that happening is almost zilch, but why risk it when something like the Valvomax doesn’t have the same risk?

But, on the topic of oil drain valves, does anybody know if the stock drain plug is magnetic?
