I found the thread title interesting and thought it would be an enjoyable dialog.
Not at all. I thought it was an interesting question too.

Okay, the coolant circulation is electric and continues. Makes perfect sense. Still though, that coolant starts cooling down with the engine off. Electric heat stays constant. With electric heat the engine only runs to charge the battery. With the HVAC the engine will run to heat the coolant even if it didn't need to to charge the battery.

I believe there will be times when one way is better than the other. My guess is that the warmer it is (but still cold because we're talking heat here) HVAC probably wins. The colder it is not so much.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is keeping the battery up to temperature so that it can charge. Is this done with electric or through ICE heat like the HVAC? I've only sat after short trips so the engine wasn't fully up to temp and seemed to run more often than on generator mode during the summer. Watching engine temps and HV battery it seemed more for engine temp than battery charging.

Turning the heated seats on doesn't add much of a draw on the HV battery so that might be another option to keep you warm but not necessarily heat the entire cabin.

I've wondered the same thing but more from an emergency perspective, which would last me longer if stranded somewhere in the snow.

I've never seen the low temperature limit for the High Voltage Battery coolant loop. Ford does state that the high temperature limit is 131F for the battery and 158F for the electric motor. The dedicated coolant loop for the Hybrid side of the Powerboost has itself 2 sub-loops allowing for independent temperature control for the electric motor VS the battery. Each with its own radiator and electric coolant pump.
And unlike the ICE (Ecoboost) coolant loop, the Hybrid coolant loop even has a heat exchanger using refrigerant to extract heat! They are serious about keeping the battery and electric motor cooler than the traditional ICE coolant system would be capable of.

I had no idea there is that much “plumbing” on the power boost trucks.

While we're talking about heating/cooling of the Powerboost it also does well in extreme cold. It was -38 last night here and the wife just drove it from Bozeman to Great Falls (3-4 hour drive) in temps hovering in the low -20s. Don't think the coolers had to do much today. ;)

She said it did great on the drive but it wasn't excited about starting this morning though. I had the block heater plugged in but obviously that doesn't do anything for the batteries.
