I believe my trans was overfilled from the factory. After warming up my transmission and measuring the dipstick, it showed the level was between 3 & 2, but I've seen somewhere (can't find it anymore) that it should be between 6 & 5. Was trying to locate this info and coming up short.

Does anyone know for sure what the levels should be at? My trans whining noise has gotten louder in the last year and I'm not even at 30k. Took the truck to the dealer and mentioned my concern and had them check the trans dipstick level (supposedly they did, but i'm iffy on that), and they said its all at proper levels (again, supposedly). Thanks in advance.

Yes, what mwheue posted and what you thought, 5-6 on a NON POWERBOOST engine (PB level is higher up on the stick, 3-4). That said from the factory, mostly seems they under filled them so yours is apparently unique.

Read attached.
Thank you for this. So to get the trans fluid up to the operating temp, how long should I drive the truck for? Or can I just have it idle for 15 minutes? I don't have the scan tool to measure the temp of the fluid. Also, does it mean that the fluid level can drop from between 3-2 that it is at now, after I drive it, to the 6-5 level?

You really need to have the proper tools. The fluid temperature needs to be correct and not just close. The transmission fluid level needs to be spot on, not close.
