Yesterday I hear the best sounding 2021 5.0 single cab truck ever. I chased him to ask what mufflers he had. I finally caught him at a stop light and he said it was stock but he "dumped" it. Before he could elaborate the light went green. Was he saying he installed cut outs? Trust me it was the finest, most powerful sound I have ever heard on the newer Fords and it was not that crackling crap sound Mustangs make.

Cut off behind mufflers and point the tips down, groundpounders we used to call them.

Sisqo would sing, "She got dumps like a truck, truck...." If he was talking about her 'exhaust', Im guessing that girl farted like she just left Taco Bell....

Boomer alert....haha. Dumped from my old school days meant cutouts to bypass rest of the exhaust before the cat(s). There were manual ones and if you were fancy, you had the more expensive electrically actuated ones.

Yeah my neighbor has a sweet Camino that has an electrically actuated. Pretttttttty sweet. Wish this was a factory option or more popular.

I never had them back in the days of old on my mustang but I remember some of the forums people would bring up dumping the exhaust under the cars being corrosive. Don't know if it's true or not and those cars probably had a lot of extra gas (carbureted) and no catalytic converters.

Thanks for your reply. Hard to believe that truck sounded so good with stock mufflers and dumping . I understand the sound is different when the tubes behind the mufflers rise up over the axle versus a straight pipe. True or false?

They were illegal in some states, Texas for one and maybe still are in some states.

Cut outs are illegal in Texas but you can still find a shop to install them.

Isn't the sound much greater if the truck is something like a 2/4 drop bringing the exhaust pipe closer to the ground?

I can't believe changing nothing but shortening the tailpipe after the muffler would affect the sound all that much, but I'm sure it would allow exhaust into the cabin when idling in place. No thanks.
