Wondering what 3d printers yall have and what you'd recommend as a starter one. I'm not sure if I'd be able to design something to print but I'd like to look into it.
Hopefully a decent priced one incase it's a big waste of money. Lol.
Prusa printers are great consumer grade machines and are pretty reliable.

Alternatively, you could always hire a company like mine to create and print any mods you could dream of! We last did a fun project for a 1975 Ford Ranchero owner who wanted to do a full vehicle restoration and he had us do the headlights.

Feel free to DM me if you want to see the video results (of the 3D model and finished lights) as I’m not sure if I can post links here.

Thank yall for all the information. I've been here and there looking at them the ones recommended and all. I just have to convince myself I'll be able to do something with it. Lol.

From what all I have seen about them the Bambu Labs machines really are some of the best printers for beginners. Coming from RatRig, Marlin, and now Klipper firmware, I just am not much of a fan of their being closed source and how they all but force people to use their software.

As far as filaments For most things I stick with VoxelLab PLA Pro but am VERY impressed with Polymaker's new HT PLA. This stuff is amazing and holds up extremely well in high temp applications. It's almost as good as the PET-CF and polycarbonate I occasionally print with but is just a easy to use as regular PLA.
there is a very talented wood worker on you tube that uses the bambu stuff
he is a gifted craftsman,
he prints custom jigs and guides for his wood project
i will find his name again

i suspect i will be getting one to print replacement trim parts etc if this follows me home next sat

Just be sure to research the best material for the use case and environment the parts will be used in. Some materials hold up much better in hot environments than others do, but the downside is difficulty in printing or potential hazardous fumes being generated when printing. Just be sure to have adequate ventilation if printing filaments like ABS and nylons for example.

I have just picked up a QUDI 3D X-MAX.

25 years ago I could use AutoCad 14 but nothing since.

Where do I go to get started? No manual and no software came with printer.

I have a Prusa Mk4, and it’s been great. I’ve been 3d printing for close to a decade and this is my second printer. My first one was an Anycubic i3 clone that I ran up until the Prusa Mk4 came out a few years ago.

The first suggestion I have is to have an idea for something you want to make. That’s what got me into it. I wanted something that wasn’t readily available at the time, so I started to design it before I even got my printer. I knew zero about using CAD, so that was the biggest hurdle up front.

The suggestion @Porpoise Hork made to start with something like Tinkercad is probably your best first move. All you need is an idea, some patience, and YouTube and you should be able to get started. I started learning CAD on Fusion360, but that’s because the first videos I saw focused on that so I just dove head first.

Your first idea doesn’t have to be crazy either. It could be as simple as making a cube, a cylinder, a cone, or any other simple 3D shape. The goal is to start learning how the CAD software allows you to design things.

3D printing really is like magic. From an idea to a prototype or fully functional part in a few hours is amazing. The ability to iterate on designs quickly is such a helpful capability.

A lot of people have suggested tinkerCAD, but personally I think onshape is a better on-ramp for begginers. Lots of tutorials on YouTube, plus it has a huge library of already built objects that can really speed up the design process for you.

As for the printer, I myself just got an x-max 3. There should have been a QR code in the box to scan for a getting started website. But baiscally download the qidi slicer, remove the tie straps and bolts holding everything in place during shipping, print a test object. Send me a DM if youhave more questions.

Have printer, will print.

Once you have a printer you'll use it for all sorts of things. Every household can use a printer. Gridfinity stuff is great for junk drawers or any drawer. You will find tons of uses for all over the house, shop, and car.

I do actually have an idea what I'd want to print 1st or soon after. I have a dual wireless charging pad for both my phones and I have to lay them on it a certain way so they charge right. I'll be trying to print something as a guide to lay them on and not have to be sliding around and all to get to charge.

I picked up the Bambu A1 Mini back when it was $200, and of course I wish I had gone for the full-size one. That said it does fit nicely into small spaces, I'm just limited to tiny prints.
