Here is the water pump for the Ecoboost/Powerboost up to 2021, it is NOT internal:

OP:

My 2.7L was rated to tow up to 13,100lbs and my camper and dirt bike just about max'd that out. It towed fine on everything except freeways where big trucks coming by would get the dog wagging the tail. Lighter loads will be fine, my boat only weighs 4500lbs and I could go anywhere with that.

The 2.7L is a pretty quick motor in sport mode with no shortage of giddy up and go. When coupled with an AWD equipped truck, it can go just about anywhere.

Thank you for confirming, much appreciated! I won’t be towing anything near that heavy, maybe a motorcycle trailer but that’s about it.

Glad to hear I was wrong. Maybe they changed the design or I was just fed a line of BS.

EITHER WAY

Thank you Notab

I had a 2.7 EB out for a test drive and found it had, for the lack of words, "A LAG" when hitting the throttle. With that being said, I was also coming from a 2011 F150 SCab with the 3.5 EB. that would push you into the seat when you got on it. I have had my truck since May 6th, 2021 with it averaging 13.115 L/100 KM or 21.5 MPG (CDN) or 17.9 MPG (US). City and highway driving. Also, should add it has been in the high -20's to low -30's the last couple of weeks witch is playing havoc on gas milage.

I drove the 2.7 before I bought my 3.5. The 2.7 is a "oh cool, this little engine has some pep" and the 3.5 is a "holy s**t this thing is half truck half sports car!!!" experience. I think the 3.5 has noticeably less lag and I love the torque of the 3.5 and knowing that 400hp/500 ftlb torque is available even at 21+ MPG. I knew I'd always wondering how much more FUN the 3.5 would be if I bought the 2.7. I bought my truck half for utility (tow a tiny 3k lb toy hauler often) and half for FUN and a little adrenaline when I want it. If you're purely interested in MPG and don't need the thrill as much, the 2.7 is incredible for what it is. I opted to spent another $1,500 for the 3.5 after A LOT of longevity research and the fact that they fixed all the glaring issues with the 2nd gen release in 2018 (or maybe 2017, can't remember). I think the 3.5 has slightly better resale value/demand, but I could be wrong. Drive them both and then consider if you'd always have 3.5 envy. If not, either little EB will be great in the long term.

18 mpg, for a vehicle that size, is impressive IMO. Thanks!

Thank you, I would like to have the extra power, especially since I am coming out of a sports sedan:)

Sport mode does not make more power.. it also does not make the vehicle any faster in the 1/4... On my tuned 15' f150 it ran the exact same time in normal and sport.. sport mode only adjusts shift points in the trans and throttle sensitivity.. when flat out it doesn't do anything for performance

When I was referring to "LAG'" , the truck I was test driving just seemed to need a half second or so to get going. Where the 3.5 feelings it is almost moving before you get on the petal. Don't get me wrong, both trucks pulled hard.

Hey guys, been researching both and was going to go with the 3.5 when I order but not sure now as I can save a considerable amount if I go with 2.7. I will be doing light towing rarely and will mainly use my truck as a daily. I love the 5.0 but all the oil consumption issues have me worried.

any advice is appreciate, thanks!

Rocco
What oil consumption issue?

Read about some owners who were seeing excessive oil consumption in their 5.0’s and wasn’t sure if there were any changes made for ‘22.

Went with the 3.5L. I drive interstate and State highways and like the power when getting on the ramp and passing, although the 2.7 is no slouch. My dealer gives a free lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission on every new or used vehicle and the water pump is covered.

A 2.7l truck can tow 13,100?

my 3.5EB with max tow is rated for 13,100…
According to all of the Ford literature I’ve found, max tow on a 2.7 eco boost, 2wd is 10,100 lbs. The 3.5 moves those numbers to 14,000 lbs. with max trailer tow. I haven’t seen any numbers that high for the 2.7. I was in the same boat when I bought my truck, and ended up going 3.5 since I was doing a Lariat crew cab 4wd, and I was given a number of 8500 lbs in that configuration for the 2.7 and 13,200 lbs. for the 3.5 with max trailer tow.

I did, I also read about many 5.0 owners who don't have any excessive oil consumption at all.

I had a v8 2008 Toyota Tundra and so when went looking at Fords I wanted a V8. One of the salesman talked me into test driving a 3.5 and I was super impressed. So I went with the 3.5 because I wanted the power and I wanted better gas mileage. Had I more money I probably would have gone with the powerboost to save on gas, although not my primary concern. I do not have a lot of miles on my xlt 3.5 and did a small road trip that got around 19 mpg and lately just driving around town it is showing between 16-17 mpg which is still better than the 14-15 of the toyota. So it depends on what is important to you: towing, mileage, generator in the back, etc.
