So I got myself a third/backup FOB off of eBay (aftermarket, looks and feels identical to OEM, minus the Ford logo on the back).
I programmed the FOB, received some dashboard errors ("Check Headlamp System" - it cleared itself; I swear some of the warning sounds are different, like different pitch or tone; I think the door ajar warning is back)...anyways, the new FOB works perfect: locks/unlocks, remote start, everything is fine.

I then left the new FOB in the vehicle, batter in, no faraday box/case, and was able to lock the truck from outside with the original FOB. I thought the truck would not lock if there is a valid and active FOB inside.

Reason I am asking is:
1. What am I missing?
2. There have been multiple discussions about spare FOBs in faraday cases kept underneath the vehicle and other strategic locations in preparation for "loosing my FOB" doomsday, but if the truck can be locked from the outside while there is another FOB in it, why do I need to store a spare outside of the vehicle (assuming of course you have keypad to access the truck)?

You thought wrong. You can also lock an active fob in the truck by simultaneously pushing the lower two buttons on your keypad (7-8 & 9-0).
1. What am I missing?
Nothing.

Go figure!

A physical key blade stashed outside the truck gets you one step closer to being able to open the hood and charge / jump / replace a totally dead battery. Pity for anyone dealing with that PITA situation.

;) :)

Yes, I know you can use the keypad with the FOB inside, IDK why I thought that using another FOB outside would be different.
So why would anyone bother with a faraday box for the FOB under the truck if you can keep a spare FOB inside the vehicle and just store a key blade outside?! 🤷‍♂️.
Sure, a key blade is good for a double situation: You lost your FOB and your battery died. This calls for a really, really, shitty day. What are the odds? Probably none.

I believe that some folks tout the use of faraday bags to preclude nearby bad actors from using some sort of device to 'scan' for fobs / create clone fobs(?). Not sure how that works / if that's a real threat(?).

A key blade is required for entry if the battery dies, period.

No "double situation" required, neither the keypad nor a working fob will actuate the power locks (unlock a door) when the battery is dead (operating the vehicle's fob receiver and / or actuating the un-locks both require vehicle battery power).

I lock my Tremor all the time with the key fob in it. When it was new the alarm would go off about 3 in the morning with the key inside. Doesn’t do it anymore for some reason. Who knows.

On a side note - went to Ace yesterday to cut the spare blade, they could not do it, the guy said when he punched "2021 Ford F-150" his machine threw an error. They charge $40.
As we say - everything happens for a reason, went to Batteries Plus (who knew they were cutting car keys). $10 and 10 minutes later I had a new blade cut.

Here we go again, wife and I, she made an appointment and order a key for her Toyota 2010. They couldn’t cut it either for some reason so they ordered another key. Ace Hardware sucks on cutting keys.
