I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this or is it just my truck so I can get it looked at. Anytime I start my truck after it has been sitting overnight or parked for hours while I am at work, I have this happen. Right after starting it, if I put it in to drive and try to drive it, the engine will rev up, but the truck will barely move. The best way I can describe it: It feels like a manual transmission with a badly worn clutch that is slipping. I don't know if maybe it takes a bit for the fluid in the transmission to get circulating before the torque converter can do its job properly, but I don't remember this being an issue when I first got the truck, and I know for a fact in other vehicles I have owned, this was not an issue. I am due for an oil change anyway, so a dealer visit is in the near future, but I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this. If not, then I know something is not right.

Hey there. I can look into your F-150’s concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?

No, thank you. I have access to the same info you do.

I think it's common. The only time I usually notice is when I'm trying to beat a car when I jump in my truck in the driveway and my truck reminds me that it's not going to happen. If I just wait a few seconds then it's fine. Happened to me yesterday.

Same.....after a few seconds, it is fine. I've seen a few thread where people's transmission fluid was unexpectedly low. I wonder if there trucks are known for drinking it, because I know I have no leaks anywhere. I'm going to check the tranny fluid on mine jic, but glad to see I am not the only one.

Let me know what you find. As far as I remember mine has did it from day one. I tow a travel trailer ever once in a while. I figured the truck would tell you if it's low since it tells you everything else.

I tend to experience this with most newer cars when I try to hammer them into gear as soon as the engine catches. Give it a few seconds at least…

New vehicles spend a lot more time ensuring the idle is stable and computers are happy before spinning up things like pumps, A/C compressors, etc that put load on the engine

I've had a few 10r80 transmissions and not experienced "the engine will rev up, but the truck will barely move."

I admit that I'm not one to jump in the truck and be in a rush, so perhaps my slow and deliberate methodology might hide the potential behavior?

I'd for sure verify the transaction fluid level is in spec.
And I do believe it can take at least a few seconds for the pump to build up the necessary pressure in the appropriate channels in the 10r80 valve body, in order to engage and disengage the appropriate 5 clutches that would be in play for 1st gear to get adequate torque transfer friction.
Although that should all be achieved in just a few seconds if the fluid temps aren't freezing.

That is what I was thinking......fluid hasn't had a chance to pressure up. I am usually in a hurry, so I start it and throw it into drive to just go, and then when the engine revs and the truck goes 0.5 mph, I'm reminded that I cannot do that in this truck. If this happens to others, then I know it is just me that I need to be patient.

I remember when I first acquired my 2021, I was coming out of a 2018. The difference in how the console shifter felt immediately influenced me to slow down with that plastic notchy vulnerable feeling lever. Be gentle and smooooth.

That alone added a few seconds to the normal routine.
And then, unlike my previous tuner that was already connected to the OBD port, with this truck it's a Bluetooth app that needs a couple of thumb touches and about 15 seconds to connect and start reporting..... Another built in procedural delay.

I'd make a frustrating first responder pilot because the copilot would be asking "are we ready now?"

I have the same issue. Start the truck in the morning, column shift, no go for about 30secs engine revs up couple thousand rpm. I asked to have mine looked at by Ford, waiting list is weeks out for a transmission tech.

I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow for routine maintenance. I am going to mention it to them when I drop it off.
