I was advised to wait until the truck arrives. I live in central FL and was tempted to book flight tickets in advance. However, I am glad I did not make travel arrangements as the dates change. Ironically, I am on the way back from Granger to home.
Thank you! I'm planning on flying out of Gainesville airport since the others are about 2 hour drives for me. It will be hard to not buy tickets in advance!

I hope you enjoy the truck! You must have similar reasons as I do to go so far. I can't believe what has happened to local dealerships since I purchased my last truck in 2013.

Its hard to book a last minute ticket. Even worse to modify the same repeatedly. I believe there are direct flights to Des Moines from St Pete/Clearwater airport with Allegiant. (So check other airports too). I had to wait for the truck to be delivered cause I would have had to rebook 4 tickets.. You do have some time to take delivery ( Confirm with Granger).

I ended up renting a one way rental vehicle took delivery from Granger. We are loving the drive back!! The kids are so excited to climb into the bed and jump around

And yes , I called 2 dealerships around me in March and decided spend my time with Granger instead or the dealing with the nonsensical quotes, etc around central FL.

Anyone get their truck recently? Apparently I’ve been in KC purgatory since the 28th and would like to avoid rescheduling a flight again if possible. 7/6 is my “ETA end” date so hopefully that’s real.

My ETA is 7/7. I haven't chased down a railcar number to determine if it made it from DB to KC, but it shipped on 6/21, so I would assume it's already in KC. It certainly seems like they should have been delivered by now, comparing them to others that had to be shipped farther. In another thread here, a user posted that his DB truck (on its way to Granger) has been sitting in KC for over a month.

Ack. That’s my fear… I have a whole bunch of plans that are dependent on the truck and limited gaps that I can head to Granger. Not sure if I’ll take my flight tomorrow and hope for the best or try and push out again.

What is the process once you fly in to De Moines, Iowa? Do you need to rent a car to get to Granger? I assume you spend at least one night in a hotel in the area?
I have a build date of 7/10 and also interested in the time it takes to get to Granger from Dearborn. I am waiting on my first truck -power boost star white king ranch.
I am scheduled to drive to Michigan to see family on the 29th of July so it would be great if I could just pick it up at the factory since I have to drive right past it to get to my family, but I know they don’t allow that.

You guys have been a great source of info, and I really appreciate all of the knowledge I have learned from all of you. Thanks!

So I haven’t actually picked up my truck yet, but here’s what I know after spending an hour or two trying to figure this stuff out.

Once your truck is built, it ultimately gets loaded onto a train in Dearborn that’s destined for Kansas City. Once you see “Shipped” in the Ford tracker that means you’re riding the iron horse, and the dealer or anyone with access to “Vehicle Visibility” can see where your train car is at a fairly high degree of granularity, e.g. They can say “Your truck just passed through city XXX.”

By way of a single data point, my blend date was 6/16, my build was 6/18, and my ship date was 6/19, and my truck arrived in KC on 6/28. Once you get to KC you enter a black hole from what I can tell. Apparently there’s a big “transit lot” there where they unload the trains, and then roll trucks onto transports that take them to individual dealers. No one seems to be able to track anything beyond “It arrived in KC and the next update we’ll have is when it shows up at the dealership.”

I should also mention nothing has ever updated in Palsapp; I just get a null destination and “pending” status.

I find this rather frustrating in a world where Amazon can track a $2 tube of toothpaste, but I digress.

My plan is to fly to Des Moins, and since I have to take a connecting flight, I plan to arrive in the afternoon, and (hopefully) pickup the truck. Granger said it takes about an hour to do all the paperwork, and I have my financing setup so I assume that will be the case. I’ll tool around Des Moins for the day, plan to stay in a hotel, and then blast off for a two day cannonball run from IA to NH.

The one benefit of the COVID-induced madness is that airlines have generally dropped change fees, so I booked an initial flight that I‘ve changed and pushed out a couple days. You still have to pay the difference in fare, but so far it hasn’t been too bad. Most of the hotels in Des Moins have an airport shuttle, and I plan to just take an Uber/Lyft/taxi to Granger.

I’ll try to update here once I actually do the deed, assuming my truck ever escapes KC. Perhaps I need Kurt Russel to stage an “Escape from KC…”

Maybe they wait until they get a full truckload to go to Granger. I know of 2 other trucks that are sitting in the KC lot that need to go to Granger. I think a full load is what 6 trucks? I’m sure there are a few others waiting to make the quick hop to Granger.

You are in almost the same boat as I am...my PB was produced on June 23 and shipped to KC. Granger tells me the truck in in KC and should arrive at Granger on July 12. I am from out of town also and have restrictions on my arrival until the end of July and hope that it all gets ironed out and the truck actually makes it to Granger.
Once I pickup the truck, I also will spend the night in the area and then drive to Minneapolis to pick up my family who are flying in the next day. Lots of close logistics!
Best of luck on your truck delivery.

Interesting they gave you a July 12 date. They’ve been a bit noncommittal with me and I passed my “ETA End” date of 7/6 with no updates to the tracker. I realize everything is speculation at this point, so I guess there’s not much else they can provide.

I just moved my flights again to the 12th so hopefully that’s the magic date. I’ve heard rumblings of a truck driver shortage so perhaps that’s what’s creating the uncertainty.

I saw your truck on the lot! Absolutely love the blue. I'm about 20 minutes from the dealership and enjoy watching your truck orders come in from all over the country. Honestly, love that blue with the painted bumpers. Real sharp Platty.

That 12th date is what I hope happens (though the dealer told me that is what is expected). The dealer told me to not make travel plans on that date though. "Wait until the truck actually arrives". He also said that there are lots of vehicles stacked up in KC.
