You can't get anything related to ratings set from Ford, by reading the hitch. Huge misconception I see tossed around on forums and Facebook groups incorrectly.
You have to go by the window sticker and then utilize Ford's calculator for the newer trucks to determine what you actually get for a rating. The hitch is just the component so the tag is just displaying simply what the hitch itself is rated for, not the truck itself.
There are some old forum posts going back 15 or more years stating that the v-5 does not mean class 5 receiver. It's noted in multiple threads on various forums when the question came up, that it is simply a manufacturing standard for the hitches. If you Google it various hits on that come up.
