Why does neither fold up completely against back cabin glass to give you full access to bed??

That was exactly my first thought. I've got a Bakflip G2 that is on it's 3rd truck. It's kinda beat up but one thing I love is the ability to open it up and access the entire bed. My wife's ranger has a Rough Country that doesn't, and it's very noticeable.

If that's not a concern, then either seems good. One thing to consider, however, is that needs change. If I was told I won any Tonneau cover I wanted, I would either get a hard rollup or a retractable. But their out of my price range so clearly that matters. I've never heard of this company so I have no basis of an opinion on one or the other.

I suppose my experience has been you get what you pay for. My wife's rough country was cheaper than mine, and you can tell. But it still gets the job done.

I don't believe I have ever seen one that does. They either fold up and sit on top of the bed like these do or slide into a large metal box in the front of the bed.

OP. I ended up going with a quad fold soft cover. Not only because it was less expensive than the hard covers at the time but was the easiest to remove and re-install if needed. It's held up amazingly well too. Three years in and looks like new.

The bak flip with the rails is the one I really want but I soo cannot afford that one.

I just put a work sport on my 2024 I really like it. It has the last section fixed but really like that it is relatively watertight very little comes in at tailgate.

I’ve been looking at this one because it can fold up against back glass to provide full use of the bed. It also has fiberglass panels which are a lot less prone to damage. Finallly, it is low profile so it sits more even with the top of the bed. Not many reviews on it yet though.
Fits Ford F150 5.5 bed.

Love my AL3. Big plus is they are made in America.

I have had a backflip G2 on my old truck, now have a Leer HF350 M on my Powerboost and in between I had a Rugged branded hard folder on the Ford for awhile. I think with a few differences most like the Rugged or the ones in the above photos are the same thing with minor tweaks and changes. 3 thick panels above bed level with at least 2 speed clamps at the tailgate, bolted on clamps by the bulkhead and thick seals all around. Some may have clamps at each panel.

For me The most water proof and durable was the 650 dollar Rugged Cover.

I didn't even seal the bulkhead and I never got a drop in that thing even in the car wash. The old G2 and my new Lear at 400 dollars more are more convenient but less weather tight. The G2 was ready for the scrap heap after about 9 years. Among other things Those wire releases let go of the latch mechanism inside after several years and no matter what I did I could not find a way to re attatch that would last more than a couple months before they let go again. I'd have to take tools and be ready to fiddle with the thing on road trips to keep it working correctly.

Leer holding up fine but I see weakpoints the cheap Rugged brand unit did not have.

The bare bones 2/3 bed access topmount covers with tailgate clamps on both sides are not very convenient but will get the job done for a long time. Lots of strong reviews on the Oedro on youtube. My Rugged unit will probably serve the F150 owner I gifted it to well for several more years. One of my favorite things about it is no rubber at the hinges. Just metal hinges with channels all the way across underneath to spit water out the sides past the seals. Ingenious design. That's for 600 bucks, meanwhile These 1K covers rely on all this extra degradable rubber between the panels.
