I have a 2023 F150 Lariat with 502A package and Sync 4 and wirelessly connected to Apple CarPlay.

Randomly and often I get this error "the inserted USB device is not responding" even though I have NO device plugged into either of the USB-A or USB-C ports (center console port or lower front port). It shows up then disappears about 2-3 times per drive. Does anybody know what may cause this and how I might solve the problem?

I get the same error when I DO have my iPhone plugged into the console port but the phone charges fine and operates normal.

I get the same error when I have just a cable plugged into the USB-A port in the console (NO device plugged into the cable).

First thing I would try is rebooting the touchscreen by holding the radio power and forward seek buttons together with the truck running until the screen reboots.

Second thing I would try is rebooting the GWM with FORScan.

Third thing I would try (or the second if you do not have FORScan) is to disconnect the negative battery cable for 20 minutes to force the entire module network to reset.

If the issue persists, then maybe a dealer visit is warranted.

At ^that^ point [edited to clarify], might one consider disconnecting each media hub in turn, looking to isolate the problem to a particular hub / port that's defective?

Well, it's happening even without something plugged into the USB port, so maybe the USB port itself is bad, but I would try resetting things before swapping it out.

Oh for sure, follow-through on all of your suggestions first [edited my post above to clarify] .... mine is just a 'last-resort test' short of dealer intervention. And I wouldn't go replacing / swapping hubs unless just disconnecting indicated the symptom is isolated to one.

thanks for the tips. I'll give them a shot. I do have FORScan and have made some of my own common modifications; which is why I'm leery of sending to a dealership because I'm afraid they will reset to factory specs and I'll have to re-do all of my mods.

Good suggestion, thank you I'll try this too.
