These are many of the reasons I’ve never lifted a truck or put bigger tires on it. The concept is very simple but eludes most people.

the first time I ever thought about it was about 12 years ago I was down in Florida and drove by a broken down Tundra with a huge lift and huge tires and a blown transmission with trans fluid all over the ground.
Buddy of mine has a lifted Silverado with a 5.3L and he knows it’s under powered for all the unsprung weight, but it sure looks good ?. I think the PB with 570tq can handle being upsized better than most trucks.

Their channel is not worth watching anymore. I think longer vids are good for the "algorithm" or whatever. Their towing comparisons make less and less sense as time goes on, too.

"Ultimate towing battle!! - A 2023 RAM 3500 DRW HO Cummins vs a 2012 honda ridgline!!"
I agree! Way too long and just a bunch of repeat babble ... and I really cannot stand that bald fat guy (cannot remember his name) - he's a complete dumb a$$.

Anyone still reading this. I can give you the cliff notes and break down the 27 minute video in to one sentence. "Look at your door sticker, get a calculator, subtract your tire weight, winch , bumpers and accessories from that weight so now you are within design limits of your truck."

I skimmed the transcript to look for any real nuggets of info.

Most of the video sounds like "New Flash! Modifying your truck will affect its performance" and "If you add weight to your truck, you have less payload left over" ?

The only real info I heard was this rule of thumb: for every 1% of wheel diameter you go up, the GVWR goes down %1. So if you go from 33" tires to 35", you'd be reducing your GVWR by about %6.

I wonder what the rule of thumb would be for just lifting or leveling the truck with suspension changes would be.

Not to distract from the topic but is that a special low drag race type lower unit? I looks so sleek…
Torqmaster/wingmaster standard 20 inch lower unit.

It's the most common lower until on high performance pad boats.
You might be thinking of a coned lower. Those are for boats that would exceed 90+ mph like Allison and Bullet.

Still, admittedly I no longer am drawn to the channel that triggered the creation of this thread. I like the fellas there enough, but they ran out of content that kept me coming back. It was probably inevitable.
This last part has me curious since I run a channel as well and worry about losing people's interest over time. Is it just the repetitive nature of some of the content like the towing or drag racing? Do you not find the repeatable tests interesting anymore? Or is it just that your interests have moved on?

Got to love AI. I now get one comment on each video from an AI bot that basically breaks down the video into chapters. YouTube is supposed to do that as well. Frankly, I've thought about just copying and pasting the comment into the description. This turns the video into chapters if you list them in the description. Helps viewers skim to the parts they want to see.

Off-topic, but what video length do you guys like best? The algorithm doesn't care about video length by the way. It focuses on watch time, the click-through rate on the thumbnail, and viewer "signals" aka likes, comments, etc...

I started driving on trails with my vehicles in 1968 and I always wanted as low a center of gravity as possible to avoid rolling over. The idea of lifting a vehicle makes little or now sense if one is going off the road. Even with mud I prefer using a winch to special mud tires or taking a different trail entirely.
