My experience with the road active system was on a GMC 1500. My Super Duty was in the shop and I needed to move my toy hauler with a heavy tongue weight to gain access to my back yard for and expedited septic system repair. With the load applied and RAS installed it was grossly overloaded to the point I should not have moved it. I had only a few miles to tow, and it repeatedly was on the bump stops and the spring on the RAS was stressed. When the load was removed my upper most leaf spring lost some of its lifting capabilities and the truck seemed lower in the rear.
I’ve since sold the GMC and replaced the 1/2 ton with an F-150. All of my trucks (3/4 & 1-tons) I’ve towed with have had air bags, but I did not want to go that route (air bags) on a 1/2-ton. Bottom line is I overloaded the truck’s capacity but wasn’t expecting it to overstress the lead spring. Since then, I installed the Teraflex Falcon tow/haul shocks with 3 adjustable settings. I have yet to tow anything with my F-150 but I’m interested in the dampening qualities of the Falcon’s. Lastly, the GMC did not have the same tow package as my F-150 which I do have now. Lots of differences between the two trucks in terms of towing capacities and number of leaves in the spring pack. I hope this answers your question? Ultimately it was my mistake for attempting to tow something better reserved for a heavy duty truck.

Ok. So they are adjustable helper springs that aren’t miracle workers for extreme loads. Head to head vs air bags is my area of inquiry.?

That’s what my rationale was- to bag or not to bag. When looking at the Falcon tow/haul kit, it seemed to capture what I was searching for; better load carrying qualities (3 settings). I have yet to haul anything yet with this set up, but I didn’t feel it was warranted to opt back in to the air bag game. Time will tell how this set up will tow and I’ll post an update when I have the opportunity to do so. I’ve chosen to downsize my outdoor lifestyle and sold my toy hauler, sold my F-350 (6.7 Powerstroke). I’m researching a canopy with integrated RTT. I need a different trailer to haul my ATVs/SXS too. Feel like I went backwards as most folks upgrade to bigger and better, but that come with a price. With our great economy, it made sense to simplify my choices and compact my resources.
