I installed a new APIM along with a screen upgrade. There are a few issues happening right now that I think may be tied to the outdated sync 4 software that came installed with my new (used 12 inch) APIM.

My back up camera isn’t working, unable to connect to WiFi (but am running the hot vehicle hotspot), unable to request automatic updates, when I turn my volume knob the volume changes but shows a value of 0, when I turn my temperature fan knob the fan speed changes but I get a prompt but it shows no value, I am unable to go full screen car play.

Looking at the current sync software version, it appears to be very dated (pic with info posted). I’ve called ford and they want me to bring it in to the dealer, when I brought it to the dealer they say everything is good but they need to replace the backup camera.

With all that said, is there any way to run a hard sync update on the truck? TIA!

Where did you get the parts for the screen swap? I assume you bought them off of ebay or something and just threw them in there?

I bought the APIM from an eBay seller. I wouldn’t say I just threw it in there, I would call it a thoughtful installation :)

Well, the seller sold you an APIM on broken software from 2020 known to break the OTA process and is incompatible with the software the other modules your truck is on which is why certain things are not working. These Sync 4 vehicles are very sensitive to the parts you put into it. P/N and software need to match exactly for it to work. It is not as simple as copying the config from your old APIM onto the new one.

If the dealer connects your truck to FDRS and sync it up the server (or your trucks syncs itself to the server), it will most likely makes things worse as there will be mismatching data on the server and this will cause even more issues down the line.

I do not have the knowledge to tell you how to properly do what you want to do and the one person on here I know that does cannot help you due to a conflict of interest with his employer that sells kits to do exactly what you did. You cannot program the APIM yourself with FORScan and the dealer for sure cannot do it with FDRS. The second they do a network scan and that data goes up to the mothership, it will make things worse. Your truck is reporting several codes on the APIM calling out the incompatibility of the APIM you put in with your truck.

The good news is, the APIM you put in has not made it's way up to the mothership yet because I still see what I assume is the old serial number in there.

If I were you, I would unplug the TCU before it does sync up and contact a reputable company like Infotainment about doing this the right way.

I definitely recommend Infotainment. I bought my APIM through them when I did my screen swap almost 2 years ago.

Pretty late info....but if it of any use to anyone. If the APIM comes from a crashed truck, chances are very high it won't work. Why I don't know, but that's how the guy who installed and programmed by sync 4 swap with 12" and new APIM said. My sync-4 screen and APIM (8" version) was working perfectly fine before the swap.
