Sync 4 - Apple Carplay Maps Navigation Turn-by-Turn directions integrated into Driver instrument Cluster?

Call me crazy, but I just discovered today that when using Apple Maps Navigation thru Carplay, the driver instrument cluster shows Turn-By-Turn directions just like factory nav does........ If this was always a feature, then I likely missed it because I personally use Waze thru the carplay interface 99.9% of the time. Today i just happen to ask Siri for directions & it came back thru Apple Maps & voila it showed up on the cluster.

Was this a recent update or have I simply missed this feature over the last few months of ownership?

Also, I thought I saw some chatter previously about an option for factory nav to use WAZE as basemap for nav? Was there previously an option to select somewhere? Because cannot find a reference to it nor any option in Sync for this.

It's my understanding you get more functionality through the Apple interface than Waze.... I get turn by turn etc in my heads up (I use Apple) that Waze doesn't show when I last tried it....

It works like this for the phone native apps - Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android phones but third party navigation (i.e. Waze) on the dashboard isn’t supported on either platform.

My 2022 had that feature the day I picked it up from the dealer. I wish google maps would do the same thing

Well, guess because I use Waze I never noticed it from Apple Maps (but only had the truck couple months) The only time it would matter to me is when using the main sync display for something else. Which for a long trip might be the case.

Yes and apple maps is getting better every day. This feature wants me to delete google maps altogether, but I'm just not there yet. Waze, well I don't think I have it installed anymore but I have used it.

I think google maps does a better job of showing the traffic flow than apple maps does, and its a bit easier to navigate alternate route choices in google maps.

I only found out about it about 6 months ago lol, now that my Sync 4 connected maps has ended it’s 3 yrs and they want me to pay, I will used Apple Maps more, ford maps still work when I manually input destinations or POI’s but apple will work while driving via voice.

Same boat. Wish it had Waze which I use 100% of time. Would be a game changer.

Waze is better for having people report police speed traps. It’s also better for traffic redirecting. But I like the way Apple Maps gives directions. “Go through this light and turn right at the next light”. So I use them both depending on where I am going and if I’ve been there before (when I need the traffic redirecting and police reporting more)

Apple Maps on Carplay has worked for a long time. But Google Maps doesn't work via Carplay (Android Auto only). Saw somewhere that Apple is using a hidden API not available to Google....
