Is it going to be your daily driver?

If so it’s a no brainer. The 7.3 super Duty is an absolute POS as a daily! The PowerBoost is superior in every way by a laughable margin.

If you have a daily driver and are looking for a second vehicle to haul your trailer then the 7.3 SD is a wonderful choice.
My wife has a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The truck will be my vehicle to get around in, but I work from home and don’t commute so it’s not something I’ll drive every day.

This truck will be the road tripper, the hellcat hauler, the family wagon.

If they passed some law that stated a man can only own ONE truck at a time and it has to be kept for 5 years or longer, it would be a no-brainer that I would have only one choice.

A KingRanch F350 Diesel and a Honda/Yamaha inverter bolted down in the bed.

With my lifestyle, I'd have to cover all the bases, if you know what I mean. ?

Honestly, that law would probably save me money. ???

But even without such a law, the average fella self-imposes such a rule on himself. (or his wife does? ??)

Thus these kinds of threads. Which are pretty much repeats, since the dilemma is pretty common.

Ford could solve this issue for a fair percentage of folks if they simply chose to build what they once did. The HDPP F150 in all trims up to Lariat. And if they really wanted to, they could build an HDPP Powerboost XLT 302A with ~2400# Payload?

This thread wouldn't exist. ?
Much wisdom..embedded in this post
We often try to leave the wife factor out, they are like the city planning office.. ?

The old f150 HD, yes that was a good one

The PB is superior at two out of three without question. They are incredible road tripping family wagons. I routinely average above 20mpg on long trips at high speeds in quiet smooth comfort. Zero range anxiety when not towing and so much power you can accelerate effortlessly into the clear spaces. You can turn on generator mode and keep a cooler fridge running in the back, and it will sip fuel at rest areas while on and keeping the cabin temperature ideal. It’s fantastic out on the road.

I’d love one. My issue is that they’re heavier so I lose payload and I’m already pushing it at 1900-2000 I think.

then the guy got out and i busted out laughing and had to turn away

I’ve been single this year (which is kind of nice but also kind of lonely) and I find the flashy items are more a liability than an attractor for girls my age (mid-twenties). My buddies without the extras do a lot better than me…the boat owner is busy waxing and working in the bilge and cleaning the sterndrive, the passengers are the ones getting hit on and having beers :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. I think the car draws more men than woman LOL, but the cars create good conversations and it’s a cool community to be involved in. Moral of the story, if he bought a Hellcat to pick up chicks I have some bad news for him…

Open car trailers and a half tons go together like peas and carrots. I know your car is on the heavy side and those Uhaul trailers are built like tanks. Go get a typical 2000lb open deck car hauler and call it good. If concerned about payload when the family is with you, pack more stuff in the car instead of the truck. Good to go!

Half ton is the ultimate cool dad’s minivan. :)

I definitely could just use the savings between the F150 and the F250 and buy a nice light trailer tailored to half tons….

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
Hmmm
Payload
But a f250 for 4 trips
Buy a dedicated hauler trailer...enclosed if budget allows
Longest with payload that fits your needs for car, tires, tools etc

F250 crew cab short bed
With high cap tow package
I would stay with 7.3 vice the
deisel
Because its not driven daily
this is exactly where I am on the OP question.
HELLCAT, wide body tools, tires, fluids just calls out for an enclosed trailer with built in tool storage, jacks, stands, seating and stuff for wife and kid etc and tire storage. So that 24ft 3,000lb enclosed trailer with 10k plus payload is a guarantee minimum requirement. Because you always add stuff, increase the weight and space not reduce it. Never underbuy the trailer.
I think a f250, Lariat spec with power steps to help wife and kid enter and exit will provide great payload, good ride, and a 6.5 bed. Greater stability when towing than a F150. They are really liveable vehicles. I've driven many 200 mile each way weekends, with a ton of wheeling and all day hard work and always finish the weekend exhausted, increasingly tired and tense towards the end of the drive home, especially as there's a big city with crappy traffic to drive through.
Once home wife gets out leaving me to back the trailer into what she calls my driveway..... unload and generally get everything sorted while she heads indoors. PS she never drives my truck refuses to drive it.

Although my F150 is a dolled up KingRanch Powerboost, and the new 2024 F350 is an XLT with far less luxury yacht options, the 3 year newer F350 was more than $20k less expensive than the F150.

Admittedly if they were optioned identically there would be far less of a spread. But that's kinda my point. You CAN get an F350 without necessarily spending more. There's so many options on both.

I would add that if you're looking at an HD pickup, get a 1 ton instead of a 3/4 ton unless you have some sort of GVWR restriction in your state that makes a 1 ton a lot more expensive to register.

Most 1 ton SRW have overload springs that should not engage unless the truck is loaded. Theoretically, it should ride similar to a 3/4 ton.

You just described the 250 with high capacity towing package
It keeps you at 11.1k lbs
But overload springs,
Heavier rear awr. And more capable frame mounted hitch
The lines get blurry fast in 250. 350
In short box or long box
Its nice to be able to maximize your needs with little package tweaks
