I’m back in this thread again. I’m just surprised so many are pushing for a 3/4 or 1 ton for an open car trailer! I’ve been an open trailer guy for 20+ years since I started racing. During that time I‘ve had a 1995 5.0, 2003 5.4 2V, 2011 5.0 and now a 2023 3.5 truck. All performed flawlessly with an open trailer. I’ve only recently moved to a 24’ enclosed trailer with the ‘23. These modern trucks are towing machines!
Here is just a sampling of what I’ve been dragging around. No idea what the payload was on my ‘95 or ‘03 truck, but I know on the 2011 it was a laughable 1212lbs! Never once did a feel the need for a bigger truck. When racing the bed woud be loaded with coolers, beer, tools, ez-up canopy and more beer.
Like I said earlier, open trailer and a half ton is the perfect combo!
