I remember reading way back when about the starters being upgraded to handle the extra on and off at stop lights etc..

When the chip shortage hit and the opportunity arose to order a truck without the auto start/stop I like most everyone else I opted for the $50 credit and called myself lucky not having to turn that off every time you got in the truck.

My question is when they started making them without the auto start and stop did they go back to a regular starter or does it still have the supposed super duper starter still? Or was the special starter just a load of--- well you know what it's a load of.

My impression is that it wasn't starter related but silicon. There's more to the auto feature than just the starter. Purely speculation but I'm guessing the starters are still unchanged / the same part. Their supply lines are such that all variables must be present for a condition to be true. The fact they were equipping trucks with all of the parking sensors and buttons, yet leaving out a $1 LIN bus chip is a sign of just how messy it was. Having every part sans a little tiny chip in the IPMA = 'deleted' is both funny and sad.

I should rephrase, did they originally use a more heavy duty starter when they redesigned this generation (21) like I read somewhere and if so was it still put on the trucks without the auto start/stop. Ford is like any other car plant. If it can save a few pennies it adds up to a few dollars and several thousand trucks later you have millions of $$$.
I would like to think I maybe have a better starter than the last generation or whatever generation didn't have the stop start. But I'm not going to put a lot of hope for it.

Did you read the same thing I did about how the starter was supposed to be redesigned for the extra use of the auto start/stop?
Just doesn't seem like ford to keep putting the better starter in (if it was a better starter) when they did away with the stop/start.

A quick VIN search through parts.ford will provide the answer.

The high static compression on the Coyote likely requires a pretty HD starter to begin with. My guess is that they’re all the same.

Back when I ordered the truck and was playing the impatient questions game. I could recite the vin by heart. Now, I'm afraid I'd have to dig the window sticker out of the glove box! LOL

It gave me a part number but don't I need a vin from a truck that hasn't had the auto start deleted to compare numbers?

Starter Motor - Center - 5.0l.
Dearborn Electrical Vehicle.
Part #: SA1179 (11002)

Usage: 11/10/2021, F150, 5.0L Coyote, Kansas City Plant Build
Section: Starter Motor

$301.82.... cheaper than I thought it would be. Picture just looks like a starter.

Just find any 5.0 from 2021 when the AS/S wasn’t deleted. I go to cars.com to find trucks that I want to find parts #s from to check compatibility or certain OEM parts not on my truck.

I would say it’s likely a different starter that we get (less severe duty) on non-start stop trucks. FWIW the 3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0L share the same starter, and the 3.3 and 2.7 share a different starter from what I’ve heard. I can verify the #’s after work.
