Shoutout to Softopper - it may not be for everyone but it's been working well for us so far!

One aspect I'm liking is the ability to access side/front of the bed when it's up. Buttoning up isn't always fun/easy but generally it's just 5min of cursing then it's done, lol! For a recent trip to Squamish, we brought bikes and didn't want to use the bike rack (an older one that's a PITA) so I loaded the 4 mtn bikes onto the tailgate, folded the Softopper over, then had access to load/move gear around to the front of the bed. Once everything was sorted, button it down and away we went. Once there, folded the Softopper forward so the bikes could be lifted out easily (I counted approx 50% of vehicles in Squamish either carry bikes, racks, or tailgate pads, lol)

@GregBC I get asked about my softopper everywhere. I love it. Easy to put on by myself. And the my 2 German shepherds love it also. I put in the mesh windows front and back for them.

Nice! Our “princess pup” (70lb lab) rides in the back seat, but if we had 2 we’d probably do the same. And that sounds safer than leaving the back rolled up.

How often do you remove/install it? It’s on again for the rest of the summer for us then we’ll take it off/on a few times thru the winter. Just worried about the clamps and pins surviving multiple installs, haha.

@GregBC I just leave it on all the time. Just like the last one I had on my old Tacoma. No issues with fading or ripping. The windows really never got yellow either. I wouldn't worry about the pins or clamps. I would worry about he weather stripping under the rails coming apart. They actually sell that and all of the parts if needed. So you can buy just one clamp if needed

Good to know! We'll keep it on all summer now that camping season is here (I put a RTT on top) but I do like that it can come off if I want to do something that might damage the pins/rails.
