Hi all,

Last night I was out and about in my ‘21 XLT. It was snowing so I put the truck in Slippery mode. The TC made the shift to 4WD just like it should.

When I went to go home I did not specify that I wanted to stay in Slippery mode so the truck went to Normal mode - but it stayed in 4WD. I would have thought the truck would have gone back to 2WD.

What is the rational for this behavior?

My guess is that the transfer case is mechanically locked in to 4WD when you turn the truck off. Still locked in when it comes back on. I also have an XLT and it does the same thing.

I agree, but if someone was not paying attention, say one of my kids was driving it, I could see them driving in 4WD on dry pavement. Not real likely but it is conceivable.

And that's not going to hurt anything. The risks are low, and you'd probably wear out your tires if this is done constantly. Now if your kids love taking sharp 90-degree turns at high speeds, I can see some serious tear on the 4WD components.
