Tesla Model X, 2021 F150 Lariat on order
For payload comparison, my 502a PowerBoost is 1399 and I have moonroof, power running boards, power tailgate, and spray in liner.
Thanks. Helpful. Those numbers confirm my build should come in above 1500 without those 3 options. Question, do you tow with your Lariat and is your payload a problem? And if I can push my luck, would you mind sharing your Monroney sticker? Thanks again.

Maybe I missed something in an earlier post, but is your truck a short box or long box (157)

I plan on towing my boat through the mountains when it warms up in WA. The boat is only 3000 lbs, so I do not anticipate any issues with towing/payload, especially with this setup.

I would keep the truck on order until you can find one on the lot you can live with. I don’t know how long it takes for an order one to arrive now but only took mine five months ?‍♂

Hey all. Placed an order a couple of weeks ago for an F150 Lariat PowerBoost 502. Beyond that, pretty bare bones with no max tow, spray in liner or other constrained items. Dealer hasn't supplied a VIN yet. Need it in July for a new trailer. Should I cancel my order and buy a stock truck off a lot? May not be exactly what I want but at least I'll be able to tow my new rig. WIth the chip supply and production slowdown announcement, can I really hope to see it in July? Thanks all for your thoughts.
Look for one on a lot that is like the one you ordered or close to it. If you find it, buy it. If you don't, wait. You can cancel your order anytime before or after it's built if you find one on a lot. The dealer will just sell it and if they are a reputable dealer you'll get your deposit back (assuming you put one down). As far as lot shopping, you may have to expand your search. I ended up looking nationwide and was just about to buy one from Michigan (I live in VA), but finally found a fully loaded Lariat Sport 502A about 100 miles from me.

Our trucks were built at the same time and mine arrived 2/17 and I was still annoyed how long it took just because I was anxious.

I feel absolutely terrible for you. I can’t even imagine if I still hadn’t got my truck.
Yeah man. I’m at the point where I’m not even thinking it’s coming.

Spoke to my dealer this AM. No VIN for me yet but he suggested they hadn't heard of additional delays from Ford on custom orders. He did caveat that things are very fluid right now but was expecting my March 10th order will get built in their 'April allocation'. So dealers get production slots per month?

They do, I think it is every 2 weeks. The chip shortage seems to be bad but not long lived. Ford uses a bunch in these new truck builds, 150 to 200 depending on the options. It is really looking like a small bump of a week or two in the build delays.

Most of the suggestions are legit I think, keep the order but keep looking at the same time. You should be fine but option B is a good thing to have.

Many of us that had a pretty long wait ordered before they had even started production. Some others had hard to get options that had a long delay. There are always a few that get some strange issue that really adds time to their delivery, damage during transport, fails QC etc.

Just my 2 cents

"I spent a lot of time on Ford's web site and the stock trucks tend to be all optioned the same. A Lariat PowerBoost will invariably have the moonroof, power tail gate, etc. All things that reduce payload which I'm trying to keep above 1500, which my ordered build should bring me."

towingnp, a couple of thoughts: I ordered in much the same way you did - Lariat PB short bed, attempting to max payload but also with an emphasis on the 'technology' options. So no power tailgate, moon roof, 20" wheels, spray-in liner. Using Ford's options' weight sheet (tho' not yet updated) I too came up with a ~1500# payload. While there's no harm in shopping around (if you have the time for that kind of thing), my point is that you (and I) had a pretty definite game plan and didn't order trim/option packages that seem to be all that common. I agree, finding one on the lot will be a challenge.

Two things to consider about all these various order vs. delivery reports we read, here and (it seems) everywhere else on the forums. First, some of those long delivery time periods are from folks who ordered before Ford started fulfilling orders, as Bob pointed out above. Thus, averaging build or delivery schedules is unlikely to be predictive. And also, it seems a reasonable conclusion from these many threads there are just w-a-y too many variables that affect delivery timetables to be assured of an order to build (or delivery) date. I ordered mid-December - after deliveries began, with a big backlog already in place but well ahead of you - and I'm still waiting for a VIN. A friend from here ordered his Platinum PB long bed several weeks after I did, from the same dealer, and it was built and on a rail car over a week ago.

Shop 'til you drop, if you must. But don't overlook the notion of renting a tow vehicle if, in fact, the July camping adventure is locked in and must be honored. Ford has experienced one long, never-ending series of production problems with this Gen14 F150 and I don't see how anyone can be certain there won't be another glitch happening in the next week or three. So flexibility is your friend under these circumstances. Good luck on ending in a good place with all this.

Jack

Ordered my Limited 03/08/21. Have order # no VIN yet. With all of the bad news and five month wait for delivery I've started looking at the Dodge Limited. Not really a fan, but compared to a five month wait it may have to do. Still mulling over.

Get a regular 3.5 ecoboost instead of the powerboost and get it off the lot. That should keep your payload intact

Everyone loves an optimist. But, reality isn't showing that expectation will come true from many other posts I have seen.

I hope it does though :)
Chip shortage is now affecting super duty deliveries .Kentucky truck plant laid off this week due to lack of chips, Super duty is FORDS most profitable product, chip shortage is real,FORD stated a week ago the company will lose 1 billion dollars in profit due to supply issues.
