Hi everyone,

Dealer recommends a brake fluid flush every 2 years or 48k and a brake calliper service every 24k or 1 year.

I do a lot of highway driving and dirt road driving - what are your thoughts and advice? I have a Powerboost with the regenerative brakes.

Thanks!

I think the service schedule in the manual says every 3 years regardless of mileage for brake fluid. Never heard of caliper service, what is involved in it?

Money transfer from owner to dealer.

I've never heard of that either, they work or they don't.
I just replace them when they go bad. ?‍♂

Might be a regional problem that the stealership has some kind of solution for. Ask them what it entails and if the disservice advisor can’t provide an answer, ask if there’s a technician who can explain.

Now that I live in the desert, dust and heat are the biggest issues but when I was in the Northeast driving through terrible weather; corrosion was a constant problem with my brakes and especially on my motorcycles, that I tried to ride all year. I was constantly rebuilding front calipers because it’s one of those things where if you wait for when the service is needed, it’s often too late and the brake caliper bleed nipples are frozen in place and both the solid and flexible lines are all corroded so it’s next to impossible to even get things serviced.

Different regions are going to have different needs when it comes to some maintenance but brake pads and brake fluid is cheap, I haven’t had any problems since I started changing out my pads when they are around 50% worn and also doing a full brake fluid flush.

I think the master cylinder on the new F-150 is over $800 and also is part of the anti-theft system, so even if you replace it yourself; a dealership or approved mechanic will need to program the truck. You can buy a lot of brake fluid with $800 and just like the new engines, which have such fine tolerances that you really need to stay on top of your oil change schedule. You really want to replace the brake fluid before it starts looking dirty and used too.

With the hybrid regenerative braking; I would almost argue that if you are driving through a lot of slush and rain, that you should be replacing the brake pads even more often because the pistons will be hanging outside of the calipers for a much longer period of time exposed to the elements, where they will have more opportunity to seize and corrode.

Good luck with your truck and let us know how it goes!

Never hurts to maintain your truck. Fluids and lubes are cheap…..parts aren’t.

Maintain your shit……earlier is better than later.
