I need to monitor a few things. Hvac control, timing. Several things.
I have a topdom smart. Pretty high end shop scanner. It's not seeing half the modules. Power train can not be monitored.
Are scanners effective on ford?
If so what have you guys seen that works well? I really do not want to be tethered to a mongoose. Besides other than software updates I know nothing about fdrs.
I want to monitor the data buss, monitor cam timing. Check for ignition issues.

You need a scan tool that is capable of reading modules on the CAN FD/DoIP network. This type of communication protocol wasn't common before 2020 and many scan tools don't support it.

Forscan with a OBDLink MX+ works well on my 2021 F150 and so does my Autel MaxiSys MS906 Pro-TS. Many modern vehicles will require active software subscriptions to maintain vehicle access so just keep that in mind moving forward. Even a fully updated scan tool can stop working the minute your software subscriptions expire.

With OBDLink MX+ you get access to all the PID so you can create a custom dashboard to monitor any of them.

I bought the corded scanner that Livinitup has in the FORscan tutorial and just tweaked a ton of stuff on my truck. And if you can't see everything/things don't work you might need to buy the extended license to get full functionality.

I have a mx+ and a mongoose. I need a full functional scanner. Not just for monitoring .
The topdon smart comes with a VCI. It's supposed to read a ton of protocols including CAN FD.

I'm only seeing High speed can.
Tell me what I'm missing.
Only half of the modules on that data line are recognized. Selecting ECM says not available.
This is the first time I have tried to connect to the truck outside of the mongoose with fdrs. I have done a fair amount work with forscan.
My question goes to you guys that have a top end scanner. Does my hybrid work with professional scanners outside of OEM stuff?

I haven't had my Autel hooked up to a PowerBoost F150 so I can't say what functions did or did not exist, but if you're anywhere near the Philadelphia, PA area I'd be happy to let you demo my scan tool on your truck so you can see what functions it supports first hand. I wouldn't consider the MS906 Pro-TS to be a top tier professional scan tool as it doesn't come with a J2534, but it's a great tool that covers a lot of functions without a crazy price tag.

When you say you need a full functional scan tool, what specific functions are you looking for? Working on vehicles professionally, I find that no scan tool does everything on every car and I find my self using several "professional" scan tools along with OEM scan tools, hobbyist scan tools, HP Tuners, SCT LiveLink, and mobile apps to get the full picture. Things like bidirectional controls, adaptions, programing/coding, and special functions can be very hit or miss even when the tool claims to do them.

SALEEN961, Do you work or own a shop? Can we meet up? I'm in Central Jersey.

I don't own my own shop, but I've been working on cars professionally for about 12 years. I don't get up to central NJ very often but I do have family in the Medford area. I have a 2 month old at home right now, so meeting up near the King of Prussia mall would be the best option for me.

My scanner cones with a jj2534 devise. I watched a few videos with different scanners.
I want to monitor ecu pics, active control of hvac motor. My scanner comes with a scope that I understand.
It's supposed to be compatible with CAN FD.

Solved the problem. I have openpilot auro pilot. It connects to the canbus high and low data. It was interfering with the data.
