I hope everyone has had a nice weekend! I’m a n00b to ordering a new truck but I’m a Longtime lurker here. I’ve been researching off of the forum for the last 6 months in anticipation of today - I’m finally ordering. 9/5 I believe is the last day to lock in 2.9% APR on a 5 year note (crazy my 30 year mortgage is 2.7%…) I work in finance and can say I’m very doubtful rates will get any better any time soon. So I’m thinking lock it in. One of my best friends is a GM at the local ford dealer and whatever I order with be 2% below invoice. A couple quick questions.

-The used car market is beginning to roll over (finally) and the new car market will eventually follow. In the time between my truck being built and order day today, if ford announces incentives will I get them when the truck arrives off of invoice? Or is that just off MSRP?

-I’m going lariat 502A with 3.5, max tow, sport appearance, interior work, and 360 degree camera. Am I missing any must haves?

-Is bed utility really worth it? In 502A I believe the Zone lighting is included. I’m 36 so I don’t need the tailgate step and the ruler seems like a novelty. What am I missing?

-Moonroof is EXPENSIVE and it just seems like something that could go wrong. But every lariat on the dealer lot has them. Anyone a diehard moonroof fan? If so, why?

-I went back and forth on the BAP. The hood is kinda weird looking and the tailgate with any color other than black looks like too much to me. The wheels and dual exhaust are the best options with it. I’d like to include it but I think I’ll skip.

Thank you all for the help over the last 6 months and any help you can provide today. Happy Labor Day!

I love my moonroof! But with that being said I'm fully aware of the risks to owning a vehicle with a sunroof. There's a little maintenance involved to keeping the sunroof glass seal and mechanical parts moving. For me it's worth it. If your not willing to do the preventive stuff to keep the seal from drying out and getting stuck and tearing when glass is opened...you might want to avoid. I do LOVE my moonroof and wouldn't order a truck without.

I ordered a ‘19 KR Back in September of ‘18. I loaded it up with all the goodies of the day. The only thing I left out was the big moonroof. Did not miss it one bit(I’m not a fan of moonroofs). I ordered my ‘22 Platinum PB in October of ‘21, and again I left out the moonroof.

If I found a truck on the lot that I liked that had a moonroof, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but if I’m ordering, no moonroof for me! Had a couple in my other trucks over the years…and never used them. So if I’m ordering, I Leave out the moonroofs.

I however got the power tailgate up and down, with the step, and love it. Imo you can’t go wrong there. Im a very fit 50 yr old and certainly don’t need a step either, but believe me, it’s nice at times when you are unloading or loading up the bed. But to each their own.

I forgot about the power up/down tailgate. That makes it more interesting. Appreciate the thoughts.

I have a 2020 KR and I never open the moonroof and mostly leave the shade closed. I have the 2022 KR on order without one.. I don’t understand the allure…

IMO sport appearance package looks better than the BAP. Removes enough of the chrome but doesn't get aggressive and the wheels look a bit cheap on the BAP. But it's all subjective isn't it.

The tailgate step will come in more handy than you think. It is much easier to load items to the front of the bed, as has been mentioned. Once you use it, you will understand.
I second the maintenance on the sunroof. My 2017 will no longer slide, just vent. I bought some of that "special" grease and took care of my wife's 2020 explorer not to long ago.
I would like to see a glass only option as I like the light and rarely open it.
I considered both sport and BAP, but I cannot seem to get away from White and Chrome.

Ford Incentives will be off invoice since the dealer gets reimbursed by Ford for those.

I couldn’t agree more. I had a couple in my other trucks, and I too never used them.

Lmao, I tried it one time with my girl in the truck, and she was like WTF are you doing, my hair is blowing all over the place, and said close that dam thing…it didn’t quite go the way I envisioned ??.

But I realize we all like different things…so whatever floats your boat.

.... if ford announces incentives will I get them when the truck arrives off of invoice? Or is that just off MSRP?
If your GM friend enters your order correctly in the order system you will have the choice of Ford Financing offers (rates and terms) in place at the time your order is confirmed as received by Ford OR the incentives in place at the time of delivery (but not those that may occur and expire between order and delivery). Financing rates/terms apply to the Sales Price / financed amount agreed with your dealer (and can include things like TT&L, and extend warranty purchase, dealer add-ons, etc), so MSRP / Invoice is moot.

"Smart Vincent" is the dealer ordering system tool that facilitates this, ask your GM friend to print-out the rates/terms available at time of order just for your records and sit on that until delivery.

IMO if you've any question at all about how this all works, your trusted GM friend is your best resource for detailed answers specific to your transaction - y'all should openly communicate about any questions you may have so neither of you is hit with any surprises down the road.

I hear ya on speculation about market rate/term trends, so agree that 'locking in' the currently attractive 2.9% rate is prudent. You can also cross your fingers and hope that if the Fed / market rates go really crazy by the time of delivery, Ford might tap their resources and offer even lower or 0% financing to keep inventory moving (that's been done many times in the past).

One final thought .... making changes to an order after it is confirmed by Ford almost always introduces the potential for complexity about the agreed original Sales Deal. Some types of changes, even though allowed, will cause Ford to 'reset' the order-clock and/or the protected price totally beyond the control of your dealer. I urge you to carefully consider your options now, check your spec thrice, and then resist the urge to make changes after it's submitted even though that may be possible.

Good Luck!

If there is a possibility you are going to use that MaxTow: Tow mirrors. Double check in the order guide, but for $250 you get power telescope and fold as well as all the normal BLIS/360 cam. Those mirrors aftermarket without power telescope are like $800. Power telescope are like $1500.

You get Zone Lighting, but not the Bed Lighting. You can add the Bed Lighting for about $100 in parts and FORscan. I opted to wait and grab a junkyard XLT tailgate with the step and no power-up down the road.

I agree with you on the step but, what is the purpose of the power tailgate? It’s slow, makes horrible noises and pretty much serves as a useless weight to carry around.
Do you have any ideas for a practical applications? I heard some people who own goose neck trailers like the automatic up/down function when hooking up the trailer.

I really wanted a step and bed lighting but the only way to get those features was the full bed utility package. Power tailgate should be a stand alone feature in my opinion.
