Just wanted to make sure all the Roush Supercharged guys knew that there is a tune revision out. Its a free update from Roush. You either have to have your Roush dealer do it for you or do it yourself.
Long story short…one of my catalytic converts came apart while doing a 0-60 run. 24 hours later the check engine light came on. Took to Ford who replaced the cat under warranty. I then contacted Roush and was informed they have a tune revision that is supposed to prevent cat/engine damage.
You have to email them and open a case.

“…they call it long term robustness…”

“Engine and/or Catalyst Failure associated with high RPM operation in manually selected gear position. Extended operation at the engine speed limiter, as can occur with transmission in manually selected gear, can result in large oscillations in engine torque and exhaust flow potentially causing engine or catalyst damage. A revised calibration provides smoother operation at the speed limiter in these conditions.”

I was not shifting manually at the time, truck was handling that itself.

Hard to explain…my cheapo laptop doesnt have excel so i had to screen shot graphs to compare.

It seemed sketchy to repeat the conditions that led to the failure in order to datalog but I did grab some data pre and post revision while doing a short on ramp pull which wasn’t as violent as from a dead stop but still WOT. It appears that the new tune brings cat over temperature protection in a little sooner but it doesn’t add as much fuel as it did pre revision. Example-A/F would go to ~10.5 after hitting 1600F on old tune. New tune A/F hits ~11.5 but at 1400F. This seems to be key to keeping the cats from melting and something discussed at length on the mustang 6g forum. Of note, my cat was not melted, it was shattered into a bunch of pieces. It rattled like it was full of rocks when I shook it.

I think this is more what Roush means with they talk about “smoother operation”

Throttle position doesnt swing up and down during shift events like before. The old tune would cut throttle way back to ~45% then ramp it back up. The new tune still cuts throttle but slower and only to ~60%.

My 18yr old son rides with me a lot and he could tell the truck was smoother during WOT runs. No more head thrown forward feeling during shifts he said.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

You can find pictures of my destroyed cat on this forum.

Interesting on the A/F changes with the new tune. Can I ask how you measure A/F? I'm curious what the Whipple tune is doing now and then compare the two....

I used forscan to grab that data. I am not a pro at this so take my data as just that…a simple data point.

Me either.... I'll take a look into it more to see what's possible. I know there are many variables, but like you said, another data point....

lol.. im waiting for my roush guy to call me back as I type this....I appreciate the tune update info. I'm getting a new engine put in because the cats failed and complete detonation of the motor happened right after. 2023 f150 5.0 with only 17k on it!

Man…. Glad they stepped up to fix it…. I hope that new tune corrects what ever caused it to happen…

I got my girl back. The new tune has done well. I drove it to Pelzer sc from Mississippi, then to Gatlinburg, then to rock city. We put 2k on her w/o a hiccup.
Now she has 19.7k on her and 2300k on the new s.c. 5.0.... I played Ozzy "coming home" leaving the dealer. cervinni hood installed before said trip! It's good to be back initiating surprised faces and hurt feelings.

Another tune revision is out.

Per Roush

Hello David,
We updated the calibration to include Ford services fixes for the AC system. Fuel/ignition tables and trans strategies weren't touched.

Thank you,
