Hi everyone,

As the temps drop here in north Texas I have noticed that during my first drive/ cold trans that my transmission does a hard shift from 1-3. Then goes away immediatlly. When the trans warmed up it goes away. I don't recall this happening the previous cold seasons. I have 2022 F150 3.5 Ecoboost.

Any insight on this issue is greatly apprecitated.

I would check the ATF level as the dealer prep person often uses X cans and the fluid can be down as a result.

Thank you @Calson !

So after encoutering this issue for the past couple of weeks since the weather has been cold, I serviced my transmission yesterday and noticed the same issue this morning. I did compete the procedure of letting the transmission get up to normal operating temp of 206° F then checking the dipstick. The dipstick read ~5.25. I'm hesitant on adding more fluid to transmission fluid since normal operating should read 5-6 on the dipstick. However, my wife's 2020 Explorer has the 10R60 and that transmission runs at 3-4.5 on the dipstick and has zero issues. I've reset transmission adaptive tables as well. I'm currently at 47k miles on my F150.

I'm wondering if this is common issue with our 10r80s.

Had to put mine in the shop last week for that same, and other issues. Mine was also slipping pretty bad going into 4th and 7th.

Initial diagnosis from the only place that will touch it, the local Ford dealer, is the CDF drum.

Still waiting for final diagnosis and repair.

Thank you @KirkBay !

Just scheduled an appointment with a local Ford dealer to have my transmission diagnosed and hopefully repaired. I've been told that it can take up to 4 days to troubleshoot the transmission, and there is a TSB to reflash the PCM for the shifting issue. We shall see!

Mine did the same thing to me last week when the temps dropped. I pulled out of my driveway slowly, the engine revved to 3-4k RPM before I realized it wasn't really moving, then it slammed into 3rd really hard. Seemed to slip a bit on the next shift, then a bit less on the one after that, and then it was fine.

I don't drive the truck every day, but it did it to me again this past weekend. I'm curious to see what the dealer says about yours.

Yep, two weeks into it and they're still not 100% sure. As of about 2 hours ago they're leaning towards the CDF drum. Supposed to get a better update tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted.
