I’ve now got a new to me mongoose and laptop. Before I spend the $120 on a subscription…. Would someone mind checking my vin and let me know what updates are available and if it’s worth it to spend the money to update? 1FTFW1E88MFA23896
Thanks!!

Could someone please run my vin. Seems I am chasing a parasitic draw on my battery. Problem started after the last OTA a few weeks ago.just wondering if you can see anything.

Thank you

SoC was reported at 71% earlier today, and the only code showing is this one which is a stored code and not an active fault. I have seen this code pop up in the past in association with other codes that indicate possible voltage issues, but remotely, we cannot see much. Something like a parasitic draw would need to be diagnosed physically.

Thank you!!

What is the recommended method to get the updates? If I understand correctly what I've read I could rent a Mongoose (not 100% clear on how this works) and pay for FRDS, or should I try a dealer, or is it possible to find someone in my area?

Thanks in advanced.

You're Welcome! You are correct there is a thread here where you can basically rent/borrow a mongoose cable. Then you would need a good battery charger. The charger needs to have a power supply mode. The updates take a toll on your battery, and you need to be fully charged before beginning. Follow the ECU module programming thread. Tons of good info over there.

The dealer is not going to want to update your truck just because you ask. You will need to have a valid concern/problem for them to update a module and only the one module they will do. There have been instances where dealers want a few thousand in labor to do the updates.

As for anyone in your area with the cable and fdrs license you would have to search around. Ask on the forum if any members are in your area that have the knowledge and can help you out.

I myself bought my own mongoose cable. It wasn't cheap but I use it for all my vehicles and a lot of my friends. You can also use the mongoose cable to perform Forscan changes.

Thanks again, very helpful!

I'm still under 3/36 warranty, I assume the dealership won't detect anything and this won't cause any thing warranty wise if I update myself.

The days of checking VINs in FDRS are over. Ford is now banning accounts for checking VINs without being plugged into the vehicle; even if they are in the US market. @jfalat Be careful. If they ban you, they will tell you it is because remote diagnosis is not allowed and they will ask you to verbally "promise" not to do it anymore to re-activate your account.

From now on, what I suggest is that VIN checks should only be done by people with a 2 day license after they have done all their updates with whatever time they have left on their license. Or, someone with full PTS access can check for pending updates as they do not seem to be monitoring PTS as closely.
