I recently bought this truck and would like to have the vin checked for updates because my about sync screen shows no version info. The Vin is 1FTFW1E85MFB20473. I have also attached an image of the about screen. If there is a way to update this without the dealership I would like to know what software and caThanks in advance.


You can update without the dealership with a Mongoose cable and a FDRS subscription. With your sync version blank, I do not recall if it is that easy. @rugedraw can probably give a more in depth response to that. Below are updates available for the truck. You are in the right place. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply, I figured it needed some updating. I'll look into the Mongooe and FDRS subscription. Maybe split the cost with a local mechanic I help out now and then if he doesn't have the setup.

Sorry to welcome you to the forum with bad news, but your truck is on Sync 20301 which is old software from 2020 known to break the OTA process. Even with the Mongoose, this will require a higher level of module programming than most people have. The attached TSB describes the procedure needed to be done with FDRS/Mongoose to recover this module. Seems like your truck came from Canada and the warranty history is in French which fortunately is close enough to Spanish where I can make things out. It seems like your APIM has never been touched, which means the attached TSB may work as nobody has locked the APIM out of itself.

Good luck. We have a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum that will help you through the process if you get the tools needed to do it.

I was referred here to ask for what updates I need for my 2022 truck 1FT8W3BN4NEC21039 delivered 8/17/21 that has Sync4 version 134 - 21136 and the dealer says there are no updates.

12" screen... I did not know what I was missing out on and only started looking due to the issue of the purple line in Waze disappearing right after it appeared... A huge thank you!

In that case, you are behind on updates. Your truck is sitting in the same software or was built with and does not seem to have ever gotten an update. I do not know why you haven't, but that does not seem normal to me. The GWM on that list I sent you is what you need to kick off more updates. Main thing you are missing I'd say is full screen capability for Android auto or carplay.

Yes, I just bought it last month. I guess the dealership can't or won't update it? I feel like it's probably missing some features/settings after 2 years of available updates, but I don't know anything about them yet. Regardless, Thank you for taking the time to look at this for me!

Dealer can update it, but won't because Ford does not pay them to update modules even under warranty unless that particular module has a problem that Ford has an open campaign for which the dealer can bill them for. Your truck is very far behind. It will take the OTA process forever to get you caught up. I would advise you to become familiar with the FDRS thread stickied in this section of the forum and consider updating the truck yourself. You bought a great truck that is tied is to a crappy OTA process.
