Replacement of Halogens with LED Blowing Light Control Modules

I like everyone else here did not like that off color light on my plates. I understand this happened on a Chevy but it has me thinking about my replacement of the license plate lights. I used the SYLVANIA - 194 T10 W5W LED White Mini Bulb - Bright LED Bulb and almost a year in with no trouble. I believe his happened about the 18 month mark for him. Please correct me if I am incorrect but on a F150 our lights are controlled by a BCM, and replacement is about 900. I am considering going back to OEM bulbs as that is a lot of money to look cool. Has anyone else had this issue with your truck where just the license plate light swap made your BCM go bad?

I have had led bulbs installed in several sockets of my 22 xl for >2 years with no issues.

I had led plate bulbs in my 2022 for 140k km with no issue and have the same bulbs in my 2025 with no issue …

I don't know. However if you read the comments under the video, evidently this a real thing and known problem.

You prompted me to listen to most of that video. The consensus was that it probably was not the LED bulbs which were in there for 18-months without issue, however because General Motors specifically states in their manual not to use aftermarket balls, he had no recourse when the dealership told him it voided the Warranty

True, does ford have that also? I don’t know. My truck didn’t come with a paper manual that I could read at my leisure. Also, according to the comments below there are some indicators on the root cause.

I suppose the load resistance meant to make up for the lesser electrical load and fool the lighting control unit may have placed a slightly higher load on the LCM and could have made it run hotter and thus eventually fail from too much electrical load. I’ll look into it later. Your manual is in your infotainment/sync screen settings.
