Remote Start via Key Fob

I love my truck. There's almost nothing I don't like about it.

That said, there's one thing that drives me a bit crazy, and I wanted to see if anyone else has similar experiences..

The range on remote start from the fob is VERY limited. In my old truck I could start it from 75 yards and did so frequently.

I have found that in the best scenario, ie. nothing blocking etc is left than half of that.. maybe ⅓.

I have changed the battery and the dealer just said "yeah the range isn't as great as many other trucks."

Anyone have similar experiences? Is there any way to extend the range?

Just wondering, winters are pretty dang cold where I live.

Yes, I understand I can use the Ford Pass App, but I live in an area without cell coverage and don't have wifi coverage large enough to cover where I park.

Are you having any other strange electrical issues? Mine was like that then I changed the truck battery and up graded it to a H7 all weird issues went away.

Not too bad on the other issues. Battery will draw down unless I drive it quite a bit. The only issue so far is that the auto start/stop module will shut down without enough driving. Of course this doesn't hurt my feelings at all. In fact I bypassed it with the auto start/stop eliminator.

Try using the FordPass start function. See if that works. Mine I can start from half a block away and around the corner. Can’t even see the truck

I find keyfob remote start to work fine from a pretty far distance.

dunno if this’ll work for you.. but try putting the key fob right under your chin and clicking the buttons. yes i know it sounds silly but i’ve actually had luck doing it lol.

The range on my 2011 F 150 was poor as well. I found out that the antenna was behind the glove box under the dash.... Go figure.... I did get a kit from Ford that moved the antenna up under the headliner. That increased the range by a lot. I don't know if there is such a thing for the 21's and up. You could check with the dealer parts counter.

The FOB range on mine seems like 20 yards or less. Nowhere near what I expected.

That's about where I'm at. Yes I can use Ford Pass, but why should I? What about when there no cell/wifi?

Not being rude or disrespectful I use all these features also. Remember a time when none of this existed? We survived. Auto makers have us hook line and sinker. Make us depend on things.

Holding the fob up to your chin does work...extends the distance so it will work.

@Ricksc - you are correct. I had vehicles where the radio was an option - AM only - AM/FM only - AM/FM/8 track...then cassette. Cruse was only in the high trims only or add it your self. Which I did on a few of my vehicles. No such thing as remote start, never mind with my cell phone. A car phone was in a bag...lol My first vehicle with power windows, door locks and A/C was my 2006 F 150.

Yes, we are spoiled but the tech in these trucks.

The 100 yards I get with my 2021 is far better than the 50 yards, if I was lucky, in my 2011.

Remember to click the remote buttons slow and yes use your head, arm, whatever to make yourself into an antenna. The slow clicks took me time to get used to and I found range is better than I thought.

There may be a setting that I’ve misssd. I can lock/unlock using the fob, but I’ve never been able to start the truck using it. Have to use the app.

Need the fob with remote start button.
Platinum should have that I would think.
2x with a circle.
Click lock once and click circle twice to start.
