Okay, first post, and second time F-150 owner. I've been a long time 4Runner owner, loved it, but family size increased, and I wanted something more...ironically... comfortable, but really wanted more capability.

It's a 23 Powerboost Platinum black edition, did the tint/tonneau/Venom wheels/Falken AT3W tires. Overall I'm happy (but also know some concessions were made due to the chip shortage, not a fun thing to think about after what these things cost). Anyway, I have a pretty significant commute, and frankly, at 6'4, 250 the seat pretty much sucks. Especially when compared to the Grand Cherokee trailhawk I traded for it. The seat-pan is too narrow, and there's no support for the thighs or torso, and it sits way too high. Thought I'd get used to it, but that hasn't happened.

Has anyone done a swap? couldnt find anything on the search. I know it'll mean I'll lose the power forward/back (and memory opion), but it'll retain all the other aspects, and gain in terms of adjustable bolsters, thigh extension (and bolsters) and should sit much lower. what/where would i install a capacitor to account for the loss of seat airbags so I dont set off the dummy light?

Any info would be great. Cheers

Welcome! Sorry to hear the Platinum seat isn't working out for you. If it's any consolation, the Platinum seats (and Tremor, KR, Limited) LOOK a lot more comfortable than the Lariat seats. I feel the Lariat seats could be wider or at least have more forgiving bottom bolstering, but I assumed the higher trim seats alleviated this issue.

Go test drive a 21+ raptor to see if you like the seats. To convert your fronts to raptor seats is about $1k (includes the leather for the rears, but its foam is different) -- To convert the rears is another $500 or so of foam cushions. ($1k price includes all foam for the fronts, a slight mod is needed that's pretty simple to do)

I know someone that'd be interested in your platinum covers.

Do you have MCS (massage / multi bladder) ?

Lots of those fancy trims got Lariat seats with different coverings.
Lariat foam heated / cooled only fits it ;)

I've got heated XLT, H/C lariat, raptor, and MCS platinum seats on hand :)

Even without multi-contour or lay-flat, don't the fancier trim seats (and Tremor) have a completely different shape? A nice wide pad at the shoulders and more substantial bottom bolsters?

Since I haven't actually compared SideXside, I just noticed how Lariat-ish the multicontour-delete seats look.
Especially the seat backs. They look nothing like the multicontour.

So what is the difference between a Lariat seat and the multicontour-delete seat in reality?

They're some of the most significant difference. They're π shaped in their 'valleys' (platinum / KR) at the front portion of the seat, The XLT and Lariats are more H / Y hybrid, the raptors are even more H than Y than the latter, the plat / KR are much different. The XLT / Lariat are very close -- same shape, just different retention methods in one area. They're close enough to put lariat leather on the XLT foam though. I'd have to see tremor seats to see which one they're close to, I think one I was looking at appeared to use raptor cushions on the bottom at least.

lariat - not fond of arrow, leg just wants to slip off of that area.

Plat rear, kinda like front

Raptor upper (sorta like lariat, tucks in tight at the top though)

Where the raptor lower shines, nice full length side bolstering. This is a big difference to me where lariat / XLT don't have much frontal buckety bolster. Kinda like plat/KR, which I don't like. Makes the leg feel like it can just slide off.

I've got seat parts in various rooms around here, I'll take pics of the parts when I play with them again.

My 2009 Tacoma had seats like that Raptor picture with the "wings" on the sides to stabilize your legs. Those were some comfortable seats. I do wish my Lariat had seats like that. They are fine, it is just the Raptor style is better.

Mines a 23, ford discontinued the MCS on the platinum for this model year. I've considered converting the seats, but it still wont address how high the seat sits. Right now to sit reasonably comfortably i have to have the wheel all the way back, and the angle it sits cuts into visibility on the dash.

I took a look under the seat and it appears the reason for the skybox seating is because they didnt put much effort into space saving, everything is just attached without much concern for freeing up additional space, and the hump from the body doesnt help either. There's about 4in extra space if things got rearranged, but then all the arms would need to be adjusted/lengthened as well.

The raptor padding could be an option, and the advantage is it'd retain all the factory functions as well as providing a better feel. I prefer to sit "in" seats as opposed to "on" them, I know there's got to be an answer out there somewhere.

Do you think you could do Raptor foam and a Katzakinz cover for the Raptor seat? (if they make one specifically for raptor seats?)

I am in the same boat,,I have Lariat sport

I've only seen stupidly expensive raptor replacement skins (aftermarket). You should be able to replace lariat leather with the XLT's katzkin (perforated if you have heated /cooled) and the many variations it comes in. Just make sure it's perforated for cooling since they also offer an aftermarket cooling upgrade (nowhere near as useful as factory). I've got new full lariat seats in right now w/ heating / cooling while I build my raptor MCS mod seats that are a mix of my XLT basic frame, all of the parts from a MCS platinum and raptor foam. Not sure if any raptors have put in MCS but I'll have em (no factory option for it).

The raptor seat I pictured above is black, I have black covers as well.
