When cold outside, my radio/screen will continually reboot for a period of 20 minutes when I start driving. Anyone have any ideas of what I can hopefully do to correct this or direct the dealer to look at?

Charge your engine battery and see if it doesn't go away.

In my experience, every time things started getting glitchy, charging the battery eliminated the problem.

I've had it charged up previously and still had the issue, but I can try again. Any other ideas in case that is ineffective?

If that doesn't fix it, there is a reboot you can do that might.

I've never had to but I think the procedure is the owner's manual and if not, described here in the forum, or on youtube.

I would try a few simple things first.

A Sync reboot which is press and hold both power and seek right until it reboots.

If still having issues a Sync reset from in the menu on the screen is what I’d try next. It will erase your stations and phone connections.

But…

I doubt these will fix your issue. The good news is recently a TSB 25-2048 came out which updates modules including the APIM (Sync). It addresses this issue you are having. If you are still under warranty it would be done free by dealer. Otherwise you can update all the modules yourself but it’s painfully long process. Instructions here on a 1000+ page thread about using FDRS and Mongoose cable and 12V power supply.

view TSB here:

here is the 1000+ page thread on updating modules yourself. Lots of smart people on here that can help.

I updated the modules just a week prior to the TSB being released, but this issue was occurring prior to that and is still ongoing. I will try a hard SYNC reset before taking it to the dealer.

It can very well be a battery issue as if I don't drive it for a week, I will get a message on Fordpass saying something to the effect of "the remote features are disabled to preserve battery".

In that case:

Charge battery fully overnight with negative cable from charger hooked up outside the BMS sensor (i.e use a chassis ground).

You could then try a BMS reset and see if that “tricks” the truck BMS into prolonging your battery life a few more months. Google procedure. I wouldn’t Willy-Nilly do these BMS resets, but it is a troubleshooting step used in the TSB ( Step 1, substep (2)) in the event of a weak battery.

Replace battery with an AGM (H8 if non powerboost, H7 if powerboost) and definitely reset the BMS when you do. If powerboost also check your aux battery behind rear seat. If you still have factory battery you have been living on borrowed time for a while..
