I have a small dog and he is right around 17 pounds. In the case of my older truck and my Wife's SUV, we let him wonder around as he wants. He does leave nail marks on the leather, but leather conditioner seems to remove them.

Several months ago, I picked up my new to me truck. The interior is in phenomenal condition. I'm concerned with it being a Platinum with the softer leather that his nails may do some actual damage on the door arm rests, center console cover, and the seats.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks.

I don't have the issue of dogs nails scratching my KingRanch rear seats, but I do have a mess of little grandkids that could give the pup a lesson or two how to........ Well, you get the idea.

I grabbed some inexpensive Harbor Freight moving blankets and covered the seats. They were so cheap that it didn't hurt to puncture them with the headrest stalks, which made for handy stays. The bottom cushions are a cinch because the longest blanket could simply be tucked at both ends by folding them under and pinching them between the seat and the underseat storage. (if yours is equipped with it)

I put Tuxmat floor mats in the truck so there's not even a square centimeter of carpet exposed to touch.

Your dog will be free to roam. :)

I bought this because my 12yr old King Charles digs halfway to China every time he gets in and the stress was taking the fun out of it. Now I hear him back there digging away and smile because we’re both having fun ?

I have an XLT, but I got the 4knines truck seat cover for the back seat. It allows you to still fold each seat up independently and fits perfectly in the F150. My pup gets buckled in with a crash rated harness and the cover lets me access the seatbelt buckles without an issue. 4knines also makes door protectors, but I haven't needed them.

The door panel on an F150 is one piece only, so damage to anywhere on the cover will require a full replacement. The OEM cost for a XLT 302A Sport rear door panel is about $715 CAD (Ironically the dog had nothing to do with me finding that out). I imagine a platinum would be more.

We have something similar to the picture above but only covers the seat and back, not the doors. Pup (70lb lab) loves to chill on the rear seat (lying down or looking out the windows). The cover allows for kids to sit back there too.

I do wish we had something to prevent her from jumping to the front seat; she only does it if we let her in the truck first then grab a few more things (no, I don’t leave my dog in a hot car, please don’t lecture me…), not while driving, but the marks she leaves on the center console always rub out.

We have two scotties so we got something that goes to the floor in the back seat. It allows the jump seat to be left down so they can see out the window. My only complaint on this one is the younger one has figured out how to crawl around the door covers because they dont zip up, but this is remedied by training and age anyways. This gives them a ton of space to roam a bit and the wife can even lay with them on the floor on longer trips if needed.

Another vote for the 4Knines covers. Worn pretty well after almost a year:

hard no for me (dog)
I got the Weather Tech Seat Protector and Door Protectors. Liked them so much I a set for my wife's car also.

Easy to take on and off and the tan matches the carmello leather pretty well. I spent time and money tracking down this color interior, and I love my dog, but...

I just lay a towel on the seat bottom. I can't use full seat covers as I often have my MIL in the back seat, too.. I've done that for 7 years with all of my trucks. Never any door panel issues other than occasional drool and nose prints on the glass. My dude is a 65 lb schnoodle.

I fold the seats and throw his bed on the floor. He’s comfy, and otherwise too tall to sit on the seats.
