I see there are lots of things that can be done to fix foggy headlights, but what about preventive. I cannot find any information on what can be done when the vehicle is new to prevent this from needing "fixing" in the first place.

Has anyone tried PPF? Is there some option out there or it is just a fix it when it happens situation.

I keep a coat of Collinite 845 on mine. Not sure how much it helps, but I feel better doing something rather than nothing.

My experience is that aggressive buffing wears through the UV coating on the plastic and accelerates fogging/ yellowing of headlights. PPF might be a good protectant, and maybe a ceramic coating, but I would definitely avoid buffing repeatedly or with too much pressure. I had a body shop do this to a headlight a number of years ago, and the one they buffed over spray off of turned foggy in under a year; they denied responsibility

My 01 F150 headlights are still clear but my Wife's Jeep fogged. I tried a couple things found on the web. WD40, toothpaste. Both looked like they worked but didn't last. Nu Finnish did some better but it still came back. Then I tried Meguiar's Plastix.

It works beautifully and has lasted at least a year.

No idea if it is the same material as the F150s, or if it would serve as a preventative.

Best prevention is a garage, shed, or cover. The more they stay out of the sun the longer they'll look clear.

Ceramic coat them. It's an "extra clear coat" with UV protection.
