Preferred after market 12V batteries for PB

Are there a brand that is better than OEM for the two batteries? I had a new 2017 Land Rover which kept acting up right off the bat and dealer couldn't figure out the problem so I took to the forums and long story short, few members were pointing to the problem being caused by the battery. When I brought this up with the dealership, they said battery is fine and has been tested! Finally, after having it towed three time, they called me and said even though we think battery is not the problem, we have decided out of the goodness of our heart to change the battery. Apparently, the battery should have read 12.5 and mine was reading 12.2 and that seemingly small discrepancy was causing the issue. I never had any issues with that car after the battery swap! Does this sound familiar? Was Land Rover owned by Ford for a while? Hint hint!

A battery needs to be tested with a load applied or the voltage figures are worthless. I buy replacement batteries from local stores so if there is a problem I can take the battery back and have it replaced.

I go with AGM that in theory should be able to better handle road shocks. I live where it seldom gets below freezing so no worries in that regard.

They are a little expensive but i would go with Optima. People also say go from the stock H6 to H7 for battery size and it fits without any problems. I have an Optima battery on my 1992 C10 and i have had that battery since 2011 and still works great.

I replaced mine with a Duralast Platinum after having issues with the OEM battery. Haven't had a single issue in 30,000+ miles after that.

Duralast platinum is a great option that is readily available. I'll be putting an Odyssey Performance H8 in mine. I'd argue that Odyssey are the best batteries available right now.

I'm partial to NAPA batteries (& other stuff ). I believe the issue is either a bad batch of batteries Ford received or a battery that was left to sit awaiting chips. When a battery sits without usage for months funny things happen inside. In the main impurities can plate out on active material masking it from participating in discharge. Such a battery will test fine unless put under load. I had some funny things go on over Thanksgiving weekend travels awhile ago, pulled into a NAPA place along the way and purchased a drop in battery for the main battery. Not a peep since. The smaller battery under the back seat is a keep alive battery for the computer memory & a few other things. Since it is normally not called on for any significant discharge, it'll likely not ever give you any problems unless you let your truck sit for a very long time.
