Just curious....
Does anyone know if the squeak is from the link-bar/e-clip external surface itself? Or is it internal to the actuator housing? (blue)

Here are a couple clips of the squeak. To me it looks like the noise coincides with the linkage moving. With a little bit of high temp grease seems to give it temporary resolution.

I think I am confused why the wastegate would even move as a result of the transition from EV to ICE?

I can see where the actuator might move if/when Boost is called for by the PCM, but under normal circumstances, the transition from EV<>ICE and ICE<>EV could take place without boost being part of the equation.

There's something to learn every day with these trucks.
Maybe I am speaking incorrectly. lol the actuator itself I don’t think moves it’s where the arm articulates. It happens anytime the gas it pressed. I edited a video that you can hear every time I am revving, etc. I was actually hoping you would chime in with insight ?

I wish I understood the reason for the apparant wastegate "range-sweep" in those videos.
What method were you using to initiate the sweep intentionally?

Great video for clarification purposes. Thank you very much.

Yup! That’s exactly where mine squeaks and how it squeaks. Sorry if I wasn’t explaining it correctly @Snakebitten

I think your description is perfect.
The wastegate actuator is definitely actuating. (Moving the wastegate linkage and thus open/closing the wastegate)

I guess I was hoping for a permanent fix even if I had to replace the actuator and arms and either attempt to install myself or let the dealer do it.
Nonetheless, @ProHERO any idea exactly where I need to apply the grease. I see both ends moving but can’t pinpoint exactly where I should apply the grease and the dealership did it so minimally I can’t even see “grease” applied but they must have because the noise is temporarily gone, again.

It’s hard to tell which end of the actuator the noise is coming from but I would grease both ends. It’s just an e clip holding each end on. A screwdriver can pop it off but be careful as that thing can go flying never to be seen again. And also be sure to note the orientation of the actuator arm. The last thing you need is for it to be put on backwards and it bind up. I assume the grease may not be holding up due to the high temps of the turbo burning it off. But I think you mentioned it before to make it a regular maintenance item.

I’ll try the spray that was recommended to me and see if I can shield behind it to prevent overspray but maybe that will be easier then risking taking it apart and screwing something up which I have done in the past lol. You think this I bought would suffice? The ford dealer told me their high temp grease withstands about 450 degrees but what I bought claims 1000 lol

That should work. It’s a lot better than what I picked up. I think it’s WD40 dry lube. It’s good up to 500 degrees which hasn’t been working as well as I thought it would. After a couple weeks the noise came back. Let me know how yours turns out.

So I'm guessing that if external application of lubrication can eliminate the squeak, even if only temporarily, the source of the squeak is in fact friction between the actuator arm and the pivots that it is clipped to?

That's encouraging since there may very well be a better remedy than using a spray on that doesn't last.

Whats so strange is why this isn't more widespread? And why Powerboost exclusive? Or is it?

I have to admit I was pretty oblivious. 99.99% of the time my windows are up and radio on. It wasn’t until I was in traffic with the window down and radio off when I heard it. Now that I heard it I can’t unhear it. Even with the window up and radio on I’m listening for it. I do remember seeing another thread about a 3.5 EB having the issue.

Apparently the noise is common as well on the Mavericks. That’s where I initially found the sound that matched mine. There is supposedly higher performance actuators with actuator arms online that are like $130 each but they only list the 21-23 3.5 ecoboost, but then when I looked at fords parts website for replacement actuator and arm it comes up for a 3.5 Ecoboost BUT lists “applicable vehicles” and the Powerboosts are listed. So I may dig into what’s different with the higher performance ones and may take that route just to not have to worry with the monthly maintenance lol.

we have a couple PB’s at work that are XL’s but they don’t have the issue and are driven hard, over 30-50k miles and my loaner PB I had for 2 weeks didn’t make the noise no matter how hard I tried haha

It’s funny to me the service advisor said mine is the first one to come through their dealership with the issue and commented they have sold well over 100 PB’s since 2021. I replied that most may think it’s normal and not bother with it, but when it’s nice out and I’m in traffic and you hear it everytime I come to a stop or the engine kicks in it’s annoying enough for me to figure out a way to fix it if Ford wont

did this lubricant work? I have a 2023 3.5 eco with 2000 miles on it and same problem. The dealer broke my driver side turbo and replaced it so that side is fine. The passenger side was doing it also. They replaced the passenger side waste gate actuator and the noise was gone for 2 days and is back now. Both brand new actuators and now squeak is back…. Nothing like having a brand new truck squeaking.
